Song Creativity

With my 4 month old I use song quite often as I engage with her. When she is in the bath I sing each part of her that we are washing, when she is getting changed for the day I sing what day of the week it is and create little tunes for things we are doing throughout the day. It is a fun way to explore language and song together.

Nature Creativity

While visiting my nieces and nephews this past weekend we went for a walk and I watched as they found things in nature and pretended to make them into tools to use, i.e. sticks became wands, rocks became soccer balls, and branches were brought home to put on top of their bush fort for 'shade.'

Art Expression Creativity

In my current job I utilize art quite often when working with kids and teenagers. A simple 'intake assessment' I do with kids is have them use crayons/colored pencils/markers to do a free drawing, kinetic drawing, weather drawing, scribble drawing, and something I should know drawing. This allows kids to use both divergent and convergent thinking and express themselves without having the pressure to use words.

Because I was just with my sisters 4 kids over the weekend play and creativity are fresh on my mind. I watched and learned from my two nephews how to be creative with bikes, scooters, cars and skateboards by crafting ramps that they would test and try with different objects to see 'how much air' they got and used convergent thinking in figuring out how to 'get more' or 'go further.'

Dress Creativity

I often find myself surprised and intrigued by what kids specifically pick up on in how they observe others appearances and then when given opportunities how they mimic or interpret them. For example one can show creativity through what they wear by deciding a specific interests in pop stars can result in choosing only to wear sequins, sparkles, or leather, etc.
