As a year advisor, building and maintaining relationships are vital in carrying out my role each day/week/term/year.

Active listening is an evidence based practice which stands out to me. This is something I do as a teacher and year advisor on a regular basis, however, it is something I believe I can continually improve upon to ensure I maintain positive relationships which will enhance learning outcomes for my students. As a teacher, we sometimes find ourselves busy, chasing our tail, and when students approach us it can be at a time where we are busy, so we ask the student to come back another time and at times this does not occur and no follow up is taken place. I work in online learning, so a couple of things I would do is to have a great About me page for the trainer, and also have them visible to the student when giving presentations, even though they may be recorded. I am doing my teaching assistance to international students who have taken up Certificate 3 in Academic Writing. 
I always greet my students when I enter the classroom and read their works along with them. As a facilitator, that really helps me to drive my training focusing on their needs/problems rather than simply following the script.
