         <description><![CDATA[<div>The legal definition of deafness is defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as "A hearing impairment that is so severe that the child is impaired in processing linguistic information through hearing, with or without amplification."<br>In other words, deafness is a condition where a person cannot understand verbal speech/sounds through the sense of hearing even when the sound is amplified.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. Use small groups frequently--this method best allows students with deafness to communicate with their peers.<br>2. Wait 5-10 seconds after asking a question before students raise their hands. This gives students with deafness time to catch up to what is said and allows them to participate more fully. (Or use response cards!)<br>3. Integrate simple American Sign Language into your instruction to promote equality and encourage communication<br>4. Collaborate with the student and special education teacher to develop shared goals.<br>5.
