Start of Monster Production

At the start of this production, we as a class, was given the beginning section of the script. This scene is where Tom is meeting Darryl, face to face for the first time.

My first impression of the script was a good one because I found that it was something very different and extremely interesting. I personally found the characters very intriguing and it was also very fun and helpful to play the characters in different ways, giving them different personas.

I was playing Tom at the start, however I found that the role was not very challenging and didn’t exactly suit me. So then I swapped to the character Darryl, which I felt was definitely a better choice because it was something out of my comfort zone.

Deeper Insight To The Characters Emotions

We were starting to get more familiar with our roles and characters personalities. However, some of us found it difficult projecting certain emotions that were continuously used throughout the script.

Therefore, what we did as a group was going through our scripts in completely different emotions to change up the way we said certain things, and the actions we do. For example, I was given the emotion of being ‘sad’ so I changed up the way I said the lines and how I set my body language.

I found it quite difficult doing this because my characters lines were extremely out there and had alot of vulgar language. Which didn’t suit the emotion given whatsoever.

Characters in different Situations

The next task we were given was putting our characters into different situations which was not on the script. A form of improvisation.

This was good as we got to develop our characters much more, getting more comfortable with who the characters are and how they’d react and what they’d do in different scenarios.

Personally I enjoyed this task and found it extremely helpful with my character development as I got to adapt my characters actions and expressionism in my performance.

The scenario that helped me the most with development was my character needing to go to the toilet. This being because I got to learn how to manipulate the other individual I was acting with. Manipulation and adaptation were big aspects of my characters personality that I needed to get more used to and this task helped with this alot.

When we first got provided our scripts I was really excited to find out the whole story of my character and what happened next within the scene.

Getting our scripts was really helpful in finding out more about our characters actual personas. Finding out how they react to certain words other characters say and what their overall behaviour is like in the story.

It also pushed me way out my comfort zone as the script contained alot of swearing and violence, which I was not used to doing while acting.

Practicing and developing

Throughout the rest of our rehearsal sessions we had to keep developing our performances, developing our characters and also learning our lines.

I wanted to get my lines out of the way first as this would help more with doing actions, moving about, personalising the body language and using different emotive tones. This was definitely true as I learnt my lines very quickly and I got to develop all my characters other aspects more efficiently.

Practicing with my partner off script got us to adapt eachothers reactions to lines we said and which made the characters conversations seem very real; it made it flow much more smoothly.

Towards the end, we became much more confident and comfortable in our characters and the final performance went very smoothly.

During our planning and production I felt like me and my partner did a very well job, we were quick to learn our lines, got our piece to a great standard.

We had lots of lessons before our performance and I felt like we used our time wisely and efficiently. I am very proud that we didn’t waste any time time and didn’t leave things to the last minute, for example learning our lines and character profiling.

When we were performing our sets, we felt no pressure and didn’t feel nervous. We felt that our performance was strong and an interesting insight to the characters personalities.

Even though we got feedback to improve it, we took that positively, as a learning tool and fixed up the aspects that we got told to improve on.

Education in the 90s was a harder job for its students as there was a limited amount of resources across the UK. For example, there was a limited amount of computers so it was not as easy as what students of today get there information on. Students of the 2000s have a better chance of studying in and out of school as they have the internet and there palms, in which they are able to find out a lot more infomation about what they are studying.

Tony Blair

Tony Blair was priminster of the UK from 1997 to 2007 that’s 10 years and 56 days. He had Victories in 1997, 2001 and 2005 he is the only priminister to have one 3 elections in a row and no one has beating his record ever since. Tony Blair had a speech about education in 1996 where he spoke about numerous things and also praised teachers and more.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2001/may/23/labour.tonyblair
