LOGOS in the lyrics: "Yeah I'm out that Brooklyn, now I'm down in Tribeca". This lyric focuses on the fact that Jay-Z was born and raised in Brooklyn where he faced racial bias from his neighbors, and he moved to Tribeca in 2004 where he still lives today. "Catch me at the X with OG at a Yankee game Shit, I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can." The Yankee Stadium is in Morrisania, a section of the Bronx which is often nicknamed “The X.” Jay-Z is a big Yankees fan so he attends a lot of them. Jay-Z claims that he is a major reason for the popularity of the New York Yankees' headwear. Since the beginning of his career, he has proudly worn a Yankees hat to show support for his favorite MLB team and his influence has rubbed off on his fans and people.
PATHOS in the lyrics: "In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of". This lyric focuses on New York City which is commonly known as the “Concrete Jungle” due to the way that the numerous skyscrapers tower over streets like trees in a forest. It refers to the struggles that many people who live in New York or people who aspire for fame and fortune, where dreams come true and are made up. "I'm the new Sinatra, and since I made it here, I can make it anywhere, yeah, they love me everywhere." Jay-Z refers himself to the New York legend before him, Frank Sinatra. Similarly, Jay-Z's talent extends out a lot further than New York. He’s a worldwide star. "Big lights will inspire you." The city of New York is filled with building lights and electronic billboards that make you feel like you’re in a place of opportunities. It makes the person visiting feel like they can become anything when they go to New York.

(0:56-1:21sec) This part of the video appeals to pathos because Alicia Keys shows great emotion. Alicia sings "Let's hear it for New York" repetitively with great triumph while playing the piano at times square.

(1:24-1:30) Unlike how the lyrics "Catch me at the X with OG at a Yankee game Shit, I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can." This portion of the video appeals more to ethos because you can see the Yankees stadium and you can see the people wearing New York Yankees apparel.

(2:34-3:20) This portion of the video appeals to pathos because Jay-Z can be seen singing about how the "New York lifestyle" can really affect women. You can see the pictures that were straight up taken of women in New York who were dressed in clothing that may be appealing to men. You can also see how they feel like that they are in New York and that they really feel like supermodels or famous.

Jay-Z and Alecia Keys acting as the speaker attempts to tell the whole world that New York City is a city full of opportunities and that you could be rich and famous like them. They mainly use the appeals of Pathos and Ethos in the lyrics and the appeals of Pathos and Logos in the video to get this message across. In analyzing the lyrics and video, it appears that their use of appeals is effective in convincing their intended audience.

The tone of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys along with the choreography of the video really sets an uplifting mood about the city of New York. It is clearly shown through the emotions of the two that they truly glorify and praise New York of all of its beauty while also stating the toxicity it brings. Overall Jay-Z and Alicia do a phenomenal job of really almost making the listener feel as if they've been to New York and they do a good job of making the culture of New York seem superior to its neighboring cities.
