It's so hard for teachers to have both their heads (and their minds) on a swivel. Teachers today now have 3 "classrooms" to take care of...in 1 class: 1 online, 1 in person, and 1 "tech issues", which act like students, in a way, because they have "issues" and "needs" that need attention.

It'll take practice, for sure, but my goodness, it's like they have to monitor 3 different things at once

I saw the online class and in person working together. It was cool to see how the online students were connected. They were celebrating that student's bday and everyone had a change to say something to them.

If my last post sounded melancholy...it isn't. Teachers are MASTERS and they're doing what needs to be done. This IS the reality, unfortunately, and they're adapting. For many reasons, certain students need to be at home, and this is the best way to bridge the gap. If a teacher truly nails it, there's little difference between being IN class and AT home...and THAT is hyflex learning!

I'll start positive: the students want to help! They don't seem to want to sabotage. They'll alert the teacher to any tech issues (muting, audio, wrong screen) and it DOES give the at-home students a semblance of the real classroom experience.

I will say, however, that when pressed for "what's most important right now", REVAS will understandably fall by the wayside. At the end of the day, the Google Meet camera does basically the same thing, in its essence, and truthfully, I believe the teacher will always choose that.

It is even more challenging when the teacher is teaching from home and cannot be there in person to help with issues. I was the "warm body" in a classroom helping to manage the Meet and in person learners and thank goodness everything was set up and explained beforehand or else it would have been very challenging to know what to do. I appreciate how much teachers have taken on during these challenging times and how they continue to think outside of the box and be super responsive to student needs.
