Project-based Learning
this would be great to go hand-in-hand with the writing assignment detailed in the writing to the left. It would be really cool to take the writing assignment a step further and ask students to do something to fix the problem they wrote about. This might require some modification to the writing assignment such as the problem must be local or within the school. Students would need to work on a solution or promote awareness project for a extended amount of time. This could be done in groups or individually.

Problem-based Learning Great examples of problem-based learning could be both in the reading and writing sections of the English Core. For reading, it would be to explore certain problems presented in the text. These problems would be discussed in detail and explored. For writing, it would be locating a problem that the student is interested in and writing an essay about it. This writing assignment could be directly related to the project-based learning.

Inquiry Learning
This step would be evident when students are locating a problem that they are interested about. Students will need to critically think about the community they live in and locate any issue they see. This allows students to find an issue THEY care about instead of the teacher giving them a prompt to write about. Students would then need to investigate this issue to inform their writing and service learning.

Authentic Activities
This assignment is an authentic activity in nature. Because students are required to locate an issue they see in their community it is authentic. This is important because it allows students to actually DO something with their writing and what they are learning. It is my hope that they will be able to see how big of an impact writing has on the community and society.

Cooperative Learning
I really like the idea of using a jigsaw for editing a paper. This would require groups to become experts in certain grammar issues (capitalization, commas, punctuation, quotations, etc.) They would then need to jigsaw to other groups and teach them about that particular grammar rule. It would be great if this could include some editing. I think that this is a fun way to learn about grammar rules that isn't the traditional method of teacher lectures.

Service Learning
This goes hand-in-hand with the project-based assignment that I wrote about to the left. This requires some type of community involvement. One main objective for me as a teacher is to help students understand that writing has a big impact on others. Change can come from writing a compelling essay and then doing something about it. I think that students want the opportunity to DO something with their learning. They want to promote change so this would be a great activity that is engaging and proactive.

Constructivism
In my opinion, English core is very much exploration based. Students are required to explore different problems (either in novels, or in the society in writing activities) and do something about it. Specifically, students are encouraged to explore issues in their writing. English is very concerned with moral issues and often require you to critically think about those issues.
