Simplify routines into three steps:

Teach them
Model them
Recognise every child who follows them

Routine: Maintain a consistent praise system

Routine/ expectations: Writing date in books + underlining with ruler + Capital letters

Start creating emotional currency with pupils today, even though you won’t be able to spend it for a while. Meet and greet at the door with eye contact and high expectations.

Be seen looking - intermittent scanning during independent work
Have a full classroom view.

Creating opportunities for warm calling- think pair share, or reflection time.

Giving the time and space for children to think, not focusing on the pace but on the understanding of the children.

Narrating as and when children do something that we see as positive, not necessarily praising the behaviour just that they are doing something we’d like others to model

Ensuring both expectations and aspirations are narrated.

Music based on their learning for example, writing about the rainforest have rainforest sounds in the background allowing pupils to talk but below the volume of the sounds.

Starting every intervention with 'I've noticed' removes judgment.

'Catch it corner' - any questions which could derail the lesson can be added to a post-it note and then answered later. Could also use 'I wonder' wall for post its.
