In 1492, the Columbian Exchange stimulated a new flow of goods to and from the New world, Europe, and Africa. Goods such as animals and plants were traded amounts regions, however, people and disease were also dispersed. Looking at these effects now, Europe was most predominately benefited from this exchange where they spread more disease to the Americas, however, in the context of this exchange today, the world has benefited greatly from products like tobacco witch is still widely sold and profited.

1525 The Rise of the Atlantic Slave Trade

In 1525, we begin to see the first records of slave trade between Africa and the Americas. These slaves were used prodominatly in the southern colonies as they were very agriculturally rich, and used as laborers for colonists.

The Spanish leaders like the Conquistadors received the "ownership" of many Indians, where they could "tribute" in the forms of good and labor. While they were meant to protect and christianize the Indians, they mainly used them for labor and enslaved them.

Tobacco was a major seller in the new world as the natives had finally found an easily farmed crop that worked with the mercantile system that was used. While the Spanish had success with gold and silver, the English used this as there major seller.

1494 Treaty of Tordesillas

1540 Francisco Coronado's Exploration
