CHASING REPTILES

https://soundcloud.com/alfie28/chasing-reptiles-rev005-12-07-16/s-HCnzl
Verse- A, G, F
Chorus- A, C, F
Vocals
Once Alfie and Ollie had written the instrumental, Me and Chantelle thought of a vocal melody. We were very influenced by Artists like Portishead and Massive Attack but we added a more soulful sound to the vocals. The lyrics were wrote about an acid trip. This is because trip-hop songs often have elements of sound which are very wavey and trippy, hence the name trip hop i guess.

[LYRICS HERE]
VERSE
if i, lose my mind,
Remain Beside,
me through this ride,
until i, can find,
the path back to, the light.

PRE CHORUS
We're chasing reptiles through the shangri la,
Questioning where we really are.

CHORUS
I'm parallel beside you,
a million worlds away,
self-inflicted trauma,
a beautiful display.

VERSE
if you decide to choose,
me as your muse,
I promise,
I'll take you to,
a state of new,
escape, its true

PRE CHORUS
CHORUS
REPEAT VERSE
PRE CHORUS
CHORUS x2

SYNTH
I decided to add a synthesizer to build that extra trip-hop layer.
Many trip hop songs use string parts so I decided to use the strings arrangement setting on a synth to get the same effect. Playing chords sounded a bit much so instead i played just a single key at a time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC1qh8mmZwg
STRUCTURE
chorus
verse
chorus
verse
middle 8
chorus repeated

I started writing this song on guitar by playing C, G, Am and F and humming a melody along. I quickly got bored of these chords so decided to play Dm, F, Cadd9, G on ukulele instead and just moved the lyrics to fit around this.
The song has a very Kate Nash/Courteny Barnett-y feel to it because of the chatty' style middle 8 which is definelty the best part
The lyrics are incredibly cheesy but catchy which is good because it means people won't forget it. This worked well at open mics in Belper because the turn out is usually the same people, so they could sing along. Although this was a positive for a small town, if i was to work on the lyrics more i would simply write more because the repetition gets boring quickly.

U used to be mine

CHORDS
C, Cmaj7, C7, Am
I wrote this piece as an outro song for a television series, i think it would work well during the credits of a show aimed at teens.
I thought of the chords when i was messing around on the ukulele. I really liked them so decided to play them on a synth on logic, It took a few attempts to find a sound i liked but i settled on 'Anthem Synth Bass'. Although this sounded nice i felt it was missing something so i played the same chords on 'Hip Hop Block' and really liked them together.
I then recorded the vocals, whilst i was doing this I accidentally recorded myself typing on my laptop keyboard but i actually thought it sounded cool so decided to keep it and simply put the 'Telephone Vocal' effect on it because i like the contrast of the really poor recording quality against the harsh synth, it reminds me of the bjork song 'There's more to life than this' which was partly recorded in a club toilet.
The concept of the song was supposed to a phone call, this is why i added the fuzzy sound at the end of vocal, it is supposed to sound like the call ending.
