Popular Sovereignty: 17th Amendment

The very first part of this amendment says that "The senate of the United States , shall be composed of two senators of each state , elected by the people thereof." This gives some power to the citizens in every state. For the first 125 years of the constitution the senators were elected by state legislators. The first proposal to electing senators by popular vote was introduced to the US house of representatives in 1826, but it did not gain support until the 19th century. On April 8th, 1913 the Amendment was finally passed. This has shown the constitution changing wit the times and improving for the better as different eras take place. By allowing the people to vote for this part of government was a big change in the past, which they had no say. It let the rights of the people progress.

Limited Government: McCulloch vs Maryland

The state of Maryland was mad about the existence of the new federal bank, so the state decided to tax the bank. McCulloch was a cashier for the bank and refused to pay the tax claiming that the state had no power or right to tax the federal government. This court case shows that not all parts of government can do what ever they want and they all have restrictions no matter what level of government its in. This case shows that the government has changed with the times, because although the higher ranking of government got the power in this case it took away some power in the lower rank of government.

Checks and balances: 16th Amendment

This amendment was adopted on February 3rd, 1913. It says that "the congress shall not have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes," without apportion from several states and without regard to any census or enumeration. This Amendment was responsible for the money that the government used for building local bridges and repairing major roads and highways as well as cleaning national parks. This amendment shows constitutional dynamism because it added something that was essential for the changing of the times that was not needed before and was added later. In the days that this Amendment was made they were becoming in debt and without the taxpayers money, we would have gone downhill fast with our state wide facilities.

The Supreme Court held that under the Constitution, the federal courts have the final power to decide cases arising under the Constitution and federal statutes, and that the States do not have the power to overturn those decisions For example, it is illegal for State officials to interfere with the work of U.S Marshals acting under federal laws. This case that represents the federal and state governments differences as well as showing the dynamics in the constitution by showing that that the government can tweek its belifs to change for the better of the times.

Checks and Balances: Tee-hit-ton Indians vs US

The Tee-Hit-Ton, a subgroup of the Tlingit people, brought an action in Court of claims for compensation, under Fifth Amendment in the united states constitution for timber taken from tribal-occupied lands in Alaska. The tribe contended it had "full proprietary ownership" or at least a recognized right to unrestricted possession. The federal government believed the opposite, and argued that if the tribe had any rights, they were to use the land at the government’s will. The final saying was that the writing for the Court, stated that Congress did not intend to grant the Tee-Hit-Ton any permanent rights to the occupied lands but had given them permission to occupy it. This is Checks and balances because it shows the difference between the federal government the supreme quart and how they can over rule and contradict each other in situations like this. This also shows that our government is stable because it didn't take away the natives rights to use public property, they just found a happy medium and said that the natives could occupy the land without ownership.

This Amendment Prohibits any law that increases or decreases the salary of members of congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for Representatives. This can be classified as limited government because there is now regulations on the pay increases and decreases of people in congress and they cant just change it whenever they desire just because they are part of the government This Amendment shows constitutional stability because it took 202 years 7 months and 2 days to ratify. It took the congress an extremely long time to ratify this amendment and make a change in the constitution, this was to ensure that this change would be okay for the times and guarantee a stable government for the citizens.

The supreme court of the United States held that Congress could set voter age requirements for federal elections but not for state elections. The case also upheld Congress's nationwide prohibition on Literacy tests and similar "tests or devices" used as voting qualifications as defined in the The Voting Rights act of 1965. In the end Congress could set requirements for voting in federal elections that it did not have the power to set the voting age for state elections. This shows the state voting rights vs the federal voting rights and how they failed to change them because of the conflicts it would create so they prevented this change in government keeping it stable

Although ratified on February 3, 1870. This is an example and shows how the constitutuon is dynamic because it took this amendment a while (many sources said different things it could be 5 years or 30 years ) to be ratified which shows hoe the government didn't want to move too quickly and wanted to remain a stable government.
