On last weekend, I have a chance to visit Brimbank Park in Keilor East. This park is located on the Country of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Peoples. It was surrounded by plenty of trees, wide green lawns and fresh air where is a perfect place for getting away from city, having a pinic or simply a walk. During my walk, I was able to notice there was a natural process that is growing and existing in this space: plants need water and soil to absorb nutrients, plants grow tall and the leaves are green due to sunlight, the colour of the leaves changes with the seasons. It's interesting to see planes flying close overhead and making noise as this park is located near the airport

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/V26M1ee3F1Q

Trancript:

Deep within forest, there was a little bird who felt so lonely and bored. He tired of his repetitive life, every day his job is singing in sunrise, going out to find food and flying back to the nest. Therefore, he decided to go and find his love.

One bright morning, the little bird hopped onto a tree stump, he started to show his beautiful dance and sweet singing voice: "Chirp, chirp, chirp" to attract everyone. Sadly, no one noticed him.

“Where will I find love?” he wondered aloud. Then, he started to look around.

Down below, the soil hugged the roots of the tall tree—crunch, press, squeeze—keeping it strong and steady.

“The soil loves the tree,” the bird whispered.

Suddenly, "vrooooom, vroom, vroom!"- an airplane is glided across the cloud, slided lower and lower until—"whoooosh!"—it's landed softly into the branch of a blossom tree. The petals went flutter, flutter, flutter.

“The airplane has fallen in love with the tree” thought the bird.

Then the sunlight shone through the branch with a warm light. The branch with leaves gentle rustled swish swish swish, making sparkling water drops to fall down- plip plop plip plop.

“The sunlight loves the leaves, and the leaves love him back.”

The little bird sighed- “Ahaaaah huuuuh but where is my love?”

Just then, "whoooosh" went the wind, brushing through his feathers. Sway, sway went the grass, waving up to him. A blossom petal plop landed on his wing, while the soil below gave a soft "thump, thump, thump" of the earth’s heartbeat. Even the airplane gave a gentle "hum-hum-hummmm" as it rested.

The bird realised: “I am loved by everything around me—the sky, the soil, the trees, the sun, the air. I have always been loved.” Love is always present around us, not something far away that we always search for.

Finally, being aware of that the bird looked up, spread his wings, ready for a new journey—"flutter, flap, flap, whoosh!"—and sang the most beautiful song of all:

-"Chirp, chirp, chirp, whistle–whit–woo!"

A song of love that belonged to everyone and everywhere.

Explanation of my soundstory

I created this storytelling by incorporating all the artefacts that I have collected. At first, my intention was making an inspired story which make people to get out of their room to go for a natural walk, allow themselves to relax and view the surrounded world differently. Through my story, I hope people will see the extraordinary little things and the stories they carry from the ordinary, this reminded me of the Parallaxis's concept "the door with many keys and a key for many doors" (n.d.).

During my walk, I caught a glimpse of senerity and a desire to be connected in my soul so these provoke me an idea of love. Love between natural elements reminds us that we are loved by the source of fresh air, clean water, nutritious food. Sometimes the pressure from life makes us feel left behind or stagnant, my story encourages quiet still awareness so that everyone understands that their the presence is precious and love from extraordinary things is the driving force for growth. The feeling of grateful and delighted when the listener is inspired and motivated is everything when I created the story.

Analytical Commentary 1- Feeling the story by all senses

1. Hear:

“Chirp, chirp, chirp” (birdsong)

“Vrooooom, whoooosh” (airplane)

“Swish swish swish” (leaves rustling)

“Plip plop” (raindrops falling)

“Thump, thump” (heartbeat of the earth)

2. See: The bird hopping on a tree stump and performing a dance, the blossom petals fluttering, the sunlight sparkling on water drops, and the attachment of the soild and roots of the tall trees.

3. Smell: The story suggest the smell of the soil, fresh grass, blossom fragrance deep within the forest and the raindrop falling down to the soil reminded of wet soil's smell.

4. Taste: The sweetness of the blossom petal carried by the wind and the fresh, cool raindrops on the branch.

5. Feel:

The bird feels the wind brushing through his feathers.

A petal landing on his wing adds a gentle, tickling sensation.

The warm sunlight is felt like soft blanket on the skin.

The soil hugging the tree roots evokes groundedness.

Combining all the senses, the story reminds me of my childhood, when my mother read me bedtime stories. Fairy tales in a green garden where animals live in harmony create the strength of community and convey the ethical message through the characters and drama. When I contemplate this story, I experienced the feeling of all four seasons: spring with blooming flowers, summer with warm sunlight shining through the leaves, autumn with cool winds blowing through the bird feathers and cold winter making the little bird feel lonely. The more I contemplate, the more I feel the beauty of nature that helps heal the soul.

Analytical Commentary 3- Early Childhood practices

These inform my Early Childhood practices by taking children out of the classroom for a natural walk to see what real world is. Wilson believed that natural environments stimulate play, development, and learning in a special boundless way (2018, p. 4 ). During the excursion, children are encouraged to listen to the natural elements not only to sound driven but also with our eyes, noses, mouths and with all senses as this foster a sense of connection to the world. Once feeling connected and inspired, children are able to use rhythm and sound as temporal language to express their thought.

The other important practice is remain free in children's playing with sensory experiences. It would be lovely to see children feeling mud in their fingers or playing in the rain and making a nest for birds. This reminded me of Wooten's ideas (2013) that children already know a lot about language before they can speak and encouraging children to play by their own because I believed that children are competent and capcable. Children are born full of curiosity and excitement to explore the world around them, so their way of playing is full of creativity and unpredictability. Incorporating free play with sensory experiences giving children opportunities to learn best, as Gano and Krull (2020) explained that when children use their senses as they explore their world through sensory play, they are actively building nerve connections in the brain’s pathways, which is crucial to brain development.

Analytical Commentary 2- Connected to resources

When I created this story, I felt that it was a gentle and poetic way to introduce children to nature. This approach avoids the fear that leads to the de-naturing of childhood (Wilson, 2018). When children don't have a fear of nature, they will have more positive interactions and feel safe playing in natural environments.

My intention in creating this story focuses on the idea of connecting with place through deep listening, and the artistic approach to children's learning. Align to my story about appreciating the present moment, deep listening improves the awareness of grounding in the present moment and fosters mindfulness as noticing the sound layer surrounded and within us (Oliveros, 2015). In children's learning, learning through storytelling, music, dance, poetry is more than just an ability, it is an art that happens at the moment (Wooten, 2013). Therefore, children's interpretation needs to value and consider aesthetic expression.
