Public realm (any space located exteriorly) has physical dimension (space) and social dimension (activity) that results the social life of the community. There are three types of public realm that can use publicly; External public space, Internal public space and External and internal quasi- ‘public’ space.

Many aspect that you need to consider in designing public space including neighbourhood, safety and security, access control and equitable environment that suits to all level of community. You need to consider various ages and disability people in making design proposal towards an equitable environment. Thus, you need to be smart in solving the issue and avoid to generate another issue from your design solution. Architecture and Urban Design are described as inescapable public art forms, which observers can choose whether or not to experience art, literature, and music. 

Aesthetic appreciation of the urban environment is primarily visual and kinaesthetic. Experiencing urban environment involves all our senses. The experience of an urban environment is a dynamic activity involving movement and time (the kinaesthetic experience). You will move towards anything that caught your attention.

If you walk with the same length in terms of distance but the perception of time taken and the experience of the walk vary in different city environment. Means, the place and content are distinctive in every city. 

Although positive urban spaces come in a variety of different sizes and shapes, there are two main types- Streets (roads, paths, avenues, lanes, boulevards, alleys, malls, etc.) and Squares (plazas, circuses, piazzas, places, courts, etc.). Lots of terminologies that you need to understand and used it wisely in designing urban area.
