giant panda: Giant pandas first became endangered in 1990 due to excessive poaching in the 80s and deforestation, depleting their bamboo food.

tiger: Illegal trade of tiger parts, loss of habitat, human conflict, and climate change.

whooping crane: unregulated hunting, habitat loss.

blue whale: The primary threats blue whales currently face are vessel strikes and entanglements in fishing gear.

Asian elephant: It is primarily threatened by loss of habitat, habitat degradation, fragmentation and poaching.

sea otter: They are at great risk of extinction due to many reasons such as fur trade, shark attacks, habitat degradation, oil spills ,fishing nets, disease and being viewed as competition.

snow leopard: habitat loss and over hunting.

gorilla: habitat loss.

Northen white rhino - used to be found in thousands in Central Africa, but now there are only two left. They have been pushed to a step from extinction by habitat loss and hunting.

Vaquita: overfishing for some kind of fish in mexico. It gets trapped and dies only 10 individuals are left.

As Australia have been suffering for 2 years from forest fires, they've been suffering so much that they need to close the windows and cover the door cracks to not let the smoke of the fire in. No, it means that we have to stop eating that much hamburgers and meat in general. Of corse we can eat meat, but not all the time, we shoud balance how much meat we consume a week. We should eat no more than 3 meals of meat a week and it's ok, but if we eat meat 3 times a day, we even unintentionally cause big loss of biodiversity in certain areas of the world and, as well, many animals to be killed for the meat. The reason for this is that huge areas of the rainforests and greenlands are cleared yearly to serve the increasing demand of the production of cheaper and diversed foods. Many of the products are produced in not sustainable ways. Thus, the consumer is contributing to the biodiversity loss. The main drivers of this loss are soy, cocoa, palm oil, coffee and beef.
Conversion of land (forests and greenlands) for cattle is probably the greatest single cause of habitat loss. We can find an example in Brazil which has one of the largest cattle herd (over 200 million animals). Most of the meat produced is for export (12% to EU and majority to China).
The other big cause of deforestation and habitat loss is the massive cultivation of soy. Soy is very rich in protains. It is wildly used as a substitute of the animal protein in the diet. However, the majority of the soy production is going for the animal feed (chiken, pork, turkey etc, and, yes, the same cattle from which the hamburgers and steaks are coming!)
