In New Zealand its untipical to get tips in a restaurant or bar. Some staff would risk their job if accepting a tip. In general all New Zealanders are very courteous, but if you have the chance to know some of them better you should know some of their rules. Very important is to be polite. Its polite to offer to help out. For example after a meal you should ask if you can help washing the dishes, mostly it will be denied. Then you have to ask "Are you shure?" if you dont do that, its very impolite. If you stay longer than a few days at someones home, who is younger than 30 til 35 years old, its tipical to give al tittle bit of money to cover the bills. People in New Zealand speak understated, that means if they say "He was a bit rude" they mean he was really rude.

New Zealand is a country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country has two main landmasses, the North Island and the South Island. Also there are around 600 smaller Islands. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. New Zealands capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland. In New Zealand you speak English and Maori and you pay in New Zealand Dollar. The North Island is more populated, than the South Island and its partet in nine regions: Northland, Auckland Region, Waikato Region, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne Region, Taranaki, Manawatu-Wanganui, Hawke´s Bay and Wellington Region. In the South Island are the Southern Alps, its an about 4000 meters high big mountain. The South Island is parted in seven regions: Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland. When you make holidays in New Zealand, you should know, that in some regions, where the culture of maori is very present its impolite to sit on a table or going in Maraes (communityhouses) with shoes. You should definitely take sunscreen lotion 50 with you, a hat and sunglasses. When you have to take an emergency call, in New Zealand is the right number 111 to reach the police, ambulance and the fire department. In New Zealand there are just a few public holidays, just three of the seven public holidays are just in New Zealand. For example they celebrate the birthday of their queen, the ANZAC day (for the people who died in war) and Waitangi Day, their national holiday.

A typical dessert is the „Pavlova“ witch is a pie of whipped egg whites and often decorated with berries. Whitebait is a little fish, you eat in eggs or in a pancake. Also in New Zealand you get the best espresso on the planet. You can get everywhere easy something to eat for a very cheap price. In restaurants you often can get Roast Kumara, its sweet potato roasted or deep fried like normal potato chips. In New Zealand you get often a kiwifruit with your dessert. In New Zealand there are three major beweries, where their beer comes from, but you have to be careful because in some streets its not allowed to consume alcoholic drinks. Also New Zealand is known for good wine, they´re export a lot of wine. You are also just allowed to drink alcohol, when you are 18 years old.

The New Zealand´s education system has 3 levels:

→ early childhood education (from birth to school entry age)

→ primary and secondary education (from 5 to 19 years of age)

→ further education (higher and vocational education)

Early childhood education (ECE): Early learning helps the children to become strong, happy and successful in later life. It also helps the children to better later in school. ECE is optional in New Zealand, but more and more children take part at it. Regularly its about 20 to 22 hours per week. You can choose between many different options of ECE. In New Zealand you can choose between:

→ kindergartens

→ education and care centres

→ in-home care

→ Montessori

→ Rudolph Steiner

→ Playcentres

→ playgroups

→ Pacific Island-focused playgroups

→ special needs services

→ correspondence school

Primary and secondary education: Primary and secondary schools are the second level of education. You visit these schools in the age between 5 and 19. Your child can start at the day they turn 5, they don´t have to wait till the next starting school year. The educational system have 13 year levels, in the primary school from level 1 to 8 and the secondary school from year 9 to 13. Most of the children go to a school near there home and when you apply to a school near to your home, its guaranteed to get a place at that school. Most of the schools in New Zealand are owned by the state.

Further education: In further education you can specialise your knowledge in vocational learning.

Dear Liv,
I haven´t seen your presentation, but Saskia told me about it. She said you have worked very hard and collected great information about the eatig habits. That has aroused my attention.

After reading your blog, I know more about the mainland an the islands of New Zealand. Moreover, I like that you insert lots of information for tourists. This will be very useful if one of the readers visits New Zealand someday. In addition, I´ve never heart children attend school from the age of five, regardless of the start of the school year. That´s high unusual. Secondary, I like your picture selection. It was a brill idea of you to show the map and the currency of New Zealand.

I would have liked some more information about the school system. But all in all, I think your Padlet is very well. I would visit the country to try out the eating habits.

Best regards,

Laura

I choose New Seeland because I'm interested in the south eastern countries. There was a nice intro strucktion to all around information, wich was not not to too long neither to short. I think it was good that you were about social behavior, if I´d go to New Zeeland myself or someone else, that is really good to know and defiantly convertible .I´d like to read more about the Education . In relation to the other texts it was little short, but still filled up with important knowledge .All in all I´d like to visit New Zeeland even if its just the country but after I read the pallet I could imagine to connect the visit with working.
