    • ]]>     2021-02-27 17:24:47 UTC https://padlet.com/philiprichardson/vmr0orr5fulxgojw/wish/1248437274     Example of a Good Reader Response philiprichardson https://padlet.com/philiprichardson/vmr0orr5fulxgojw/wish/1248448379 I just finished reading City of the Plague God and I really liked it.  It had a cool protagonist named Sik and he comes from a Iraqi Muslim culture.  You don’t see very many heroes in books with that kind of background so it was cool to read and learn about the food and culture.  I also liked that it included characters from the Mesopotamian mythology like Gilgamesh and Ishitar the goddess.  This story really hit home for me because the COVID pandemic has taken a toll on our society in a similar way to the book.  Though it was written before the COVID outbreak, it does hit on a major theme which is how vulnerable humans are to disease and that if we work together, we can overcome them. We see this theme throughout the story but particularly when he wants to give up and leave the sickness as someone else's problem. Still, Sik decides to rally his friends and use the flower of immortality to create an cure.
