Maybe not surprised by this, but a great reminder from the parents view is to have all communication in one manner and on one platform. This is especially true for someone that has multiple children and each children has multiple teachers.

9 Ways- I wasn't surprised but enlightened. I like that there are so many tools and so many ways to teach and assess. Feedback is so important, and having the students build connections with a growth mindset.

After the end of the 2019-2020 year, I wasn't surprised by the advice in the article, but they were great reminders. Truly simplifying everything, joining forces with co-teachers for parents and students, and making instruction with technology explanations and how-to videos are so essential. Parent communication is absolutely critical!!!

I agree that it is best to use active teaching in face to face sessions. I also agree with simplifying and slowing down the content. Smaller chunks, but great depth of knowledge. I also agree with the importance of providing quality feedback being of the greatest importance.

Not necessarily surprised, but I felt the article gave a good overview of how to make online learning more conducive for learning. Having multiple children myself, I find it difficult to keep up with the schedules and assignments for my own children when given to me at various times and through various platforms. This article made the point that being consistent and using one platform to deliver information will help parents to not feel overwhelmed.

I was surprised to see that the article pointed out that some students are put at a disadvantage when synchronous meetings are required. I wholeheartedly agree with the statement and found in the spring that students seemed to appreciate instruction being available asynchronously. However, our district is requiring us to meet synchronously with each student daily.

I wasn't surprised by it. I felt it was very informative. One thing that I learned from it was that content needs to be slowed down and focus on just what is the priority to master in order to move on to the next grade. Many times as teachers, we struggle to do that. We want to make sure they have an understanding of every skill.

In order for virtual to be successful both students and teachers should have training in how to use the learning platforms. I agree with her suggestions and actually have had discussions with other teachers about how to better launch next year. Fortunately, my second semester went much more smoothly than the first. It's because we implemented some of these strategies. I am happy to see that we were headed in the right direction.
