Medical judgement by the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) mandates evidence-based practice, therefore guidelines are applied in all clinical practice. Guidelines such as the Surviving Sepsis Campaign International Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock, warrant incorporation of pursuit and reference into treatment protocol.
Through problem identification and research they have found that adding sepsis watch to the Rapid Response team improved; early detection, implementation of diagnostics and treatment, and improved outcomes with decreased mortality rates (Institute for Healthcare Improvement, 2019). Advanced practice nurses in the acute care setting to serve as the provider for the Rapid Response Team uniformly across the country.
