I was asked not to talk about a certain topic with students and I was in agony about being asked to surgically remove elements of conversation that students brought to me, to view students as pieces instead of a whole. I used to work with women addicted to opioids until the very end whether that was recovery, or death by overdose or drug-related crime. As we were looking at what his skills, passions, and personality traits are related to a certain job he was researching, you could see him light up when he began talking about what he thinks of himself. Probing and asking deeper questions allowed him to articulate that he is good with details, he is patient, but still need to work on his anger issues in order to be the professional he wants to be.
