1. Which technology would best assess listening? Why?

- Kahoot can be used for listening quizzes by playing an audio clip in class, then asking students to choose the correct answer quickly. It works well for checking understanding in a fun and competitive way.

- Google Forms allows teachers to embed audio files directly into the form, followed by multiple-choice or short-answer questions. This makes it more flexible for midterm or quiz purposes, as students can listen at their own pace.

2. Advantages and Challenges

- Kahoot: Advantage → creates a lively and engaging atmosphere during listening assessments, especially in a final test setting. Challenge → limited to quick-response formats, so it may not assess deeper comprehension.

- Google Forms: Advantage → free, accessible, and easy to share with students for quizzes or midterms. Challenge → low test security, since students may replay the audio or collaborate with peers.

3. When is technology-based assessment more effective

- Example: In a school with stable internet and good facilities, teachers can conduct a listening quiz via Google Forms. Students receive instant feedback, and the teacher saves time in grading.

4. When might traditional assessment still be necessary?

- Example: In a rural school with limited internet access, teachers may prefer paper-based listening tests, where students listen to an audio played in class and write their answers. This ensures fairness and reliability when technology cannot be used.

1. To assess speaking skills we choose stimuller, because stimuler is the most suitable because the application is equipped with AI-based features. Through AI, students can record their voice or video while speaking, and the system automatically provides feedback on pronunciation, intonation, fluency, and vocabulary. This helps students identify their mistakes immediately without waiting for the teacher’s evaluation, and it also makes speaking assessment more objective, fast, and detailed.

2. Makes students more confident because they practise with AI before speaking with other people.

This application has a variety of exercises (e.g. interview simulations, presentations, small talk).

Motivates students because it is interactive and similar to real-life speaking practice.

Some challenges that will arise when using this technology

Limited access, Not all students have good enough devices, internet connections, or microphones.

Lack of human interaction, Speaking also requires negotiation about meaning, feelings, and spontaneity, which are difficult for applications to replicate.

3.

Which technology would best assesss reading? Why?

Google form (multiple choice)

Quizizz (multiple choice)

Kahoot (multiple choice)

For reading assessments in multiple-choice format, Google Forms can be considered the best option. Its main strength lies in the ability to record answers systematically, organize results neatly, and assist teachers in analyzing data effectively. Furthermore, Google Forms allows for a variety of question types ranging from multiple choice and short answers to reading comprehension items, so the assessment instrument can be tailored to specific needs. The results can also be exported into spreadsheets, making the analysis process faster, more accurate, and supportive of assessment accountability.

Even so, some aspects still need to be carefully considered. Google Forms tends to be less interactive compared to Quizizz or Kahoot, which offer a game-like atmosphere and can increase student motivation. Therefore, the choice of technology should not rely solely on ease of analysis but also be adjusted to the assessment objectives, student characteristics, and learning context, so that the evaluation not only produces accurate data but also actively engages learners.

What advantages or challenges might arise from using this technology for assesment?

The main advantages of technology-based assessment such as Google Forms are efficiency, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness. Teachers can save time because grading is done automatically, and assessments can be easily shared with a large number of students through simple links. This makes it practical for large-scale tests, low-budget contexts, or remote learning situations like during the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, some challenges may arise. Cheating is more likely if supervision is weak, and not all students have equal access to devices or stable internet connections. In addition, compared to game-based platforms such as Quizizz or Kahoot, Google Forms tends to be less engaging, which might reduce students’ motivation. These issues require careful planning, for example by setting time limits, randomizing questions, or combining the tool with other monitoring methods.

Technology-based assessments, especially reading assessments, are more effective in several situations. The first one is in a situation where face-to-face meetings are impossible. For instance, during the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers can use Google Forms or Quizizz to do the assessment, as they are not allowed to conduct a face-to-face meeting. Although prone to cheating, by using several countermeasures such as a strict time limit and a mandatory Zoom meeting for supervision, these technology-based assessments are more effective than the traditional ones.
The other situations that make technology-based assessments more effective are when we need to assess a really huge number of students at the same time. The most prominent example of this is the English national exam. The majority of the part of the English national exam is a reading assessment in multiple-choice question form, and to conduct and grade those assessments in a traditional way would be ineffective. By using technology-based assessments, automatic grading is possible. And this will not only make scoring easier but also faster, resulting in technology-based assessments being more effective than traditional assessments.
The last one is when there is a lack of funds to conduct the assessment. For example, a school wants to know the students’ current proficiency level of reading in English to make a school-based curriculum. However, due to this being an independent activity held by the school, not much funding can be allocated to this assessment, causing the paper-based assessment to be difficult to implement. In this situation, technology-based assessment can be a more effective solution. By using technology-based assessment, teachers can just design one assessment instrument and share it with all the participants through links, effectively conducting the assessment without much funding.

In what situation might traditional assessment still be necessary?

Traditional assessment remains necessary in resource-limited contexts where schools lack reliable technology infrastructure, adequate budgets for digital platforms, or sufficient technical expertise among staff and students. When institutions cannot provide consistent internet access, devices, or IT support, paper-based assessments offer a more practical and equitable solution that doesn't disadvantage students based on their access to technology or digital literacy levels. Additionally, high-stakes testing scenarios often require the security and standardization that traditional proctored environments provide, while certain skills like handwriting or mathematical problem-solving without digital aids may be better evaluated through conventional methods. Even well-resourced institutions typically maintain traditional assessment capabilities as backup options during system failures or emergencies, recognizing that a hybrid approach ensures continuity and accessibility regardless of technological constraints or unexpected circumstances.
