I went to Oceanview Elementary Martitime School. My dad was in the Navy, and got transferred to Pennsylvania where he retired after 24 years. I then changed my major to primary education, where I wanted to teach 2nd or 3rd grade. The main reason I decided to change my major was because where I am from in Pennsylvania all of my peers had outstanding opportunities where their families were upper-class families. When we moved to the Eastern Shore, it was completely different, my little brother has many students in his class that are immigrants and mostly African American students. Being in the military, I already had been taught that even though on the outside you may look different, but it's what is inside that matters. Some things I strongly believe in in the classroom setting is the children deserve a chance to be themselves and be creative. I believe that children should be taught hands-on and with a lot of visual items for them to observe. I once read this article about a school in the United States that made their classroom desks where the children stand, but they have a place for their foot to go that swings their foot to keep them occupied throughout the day. Things like these can make a big impact on children, especially younger ones, that can help them pay attention during class, but also when they think they are getting bored, they have something there to keep them on track.
