In early childhood, parents will notice a difference or lack in speaking skills in comparison to the language of other children their age. This usually prompts parents to have the child evaluated by a professional. Many times, the first step in evaluation is having a child's hearing checked. This is to ensure the speech impairment is not actually a hearing impairment that is interfering with language development. Some examples of commonly used assessments are the CELF-5, PLS-5 English, Bayley-III, and GFTA-3. These assessments monitor things like articulation of consonant sounds, language development, and communication skills in many contexts.
