The very first thing I learned about in this class was Flipgrid. This is something I had never heard of or used before, but could be very useful for me as a teacher in the future. If ever I need to teach or post videos online, this is a very easy way to do it. The great thing is, other people can comment and even reply with their own videos.

From the TedTalk I learned that in the real world, people use technology all of the time. Technology needs to be integrated into schools as well, so students can learn to properly use it and be prepared for the real world.

Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?

This article talks about the correlation between smartphones/social media and the general unhappiness of the generation called iGen. Before reading this, I had no idea just how high the teen suicide rate was. There are also high rates of depression and feeling lonely in general. It is important to take this information into consideration as a teacher, and try to understand that many students are struggling emotionally. They need a little extra love, care, and support.

Pandemic Politics

From this article I learned about the inequalities in our school systems and how they are made worse by the pandemic and online school. Many students do not have access to a computer/ laptop or a reliable source of wifi, putting them at a disadvantage. As a teacher, it is important to keep in mind that not all students have access to the resources they need. For example, if a school adopts an online program for all students to use at home, but a student cannot afford a computer, perhaps the lessons could be printed out for that student to complete, or see if the school can help provide the family with the proper resources.

* Using technology in the classroom can prepare a student for the real world. Learning how to properly use technology and the internet in the classroom will help them be successful on their own with technology.
* For a lot of students, technology is something familiar to them. Using it in the classroom may help them connect to a lesson which will help them better understand it.
* Technology can provide some fun and variety to lessons. For example, videos, slides/ presentations, and interactive group/individual games. This can keep a student engaged and interested in a lesson.

* Some students use phones and technology all day outside of the classroom, so it is important that not all lessons are technology oriented. They will probably benefit from less screen time.
* Students stressors may stem from being online, an online life often leads to loneliness and general unhappiness. Putting students in face to face groups and having them interact in person can help nurture their social skills and make them feel seen.
* Students may also get distracted while using technology in the classroom. When using a computer on their own, the may stray from the lesson at hand and get lost.
