Thebe Neruda Kgositsile otherwise known as Earl Sweatshirt is an American rapper and Record Producer. He is well known for his very abstract raps along with eerie production.

Thebe started his rap career in 2007 under the name Sly Tendencies. He started posting all of his early music on the platform MySpace. Later in 2009 Tyler the creator discovered Thebe via his MySpace account and invited him to the music collective Odd Future. Once he joined he changed his name to Earl Sweatshirt.

In 2010 He released his debut mixtape Earl in which he gained recognition and praise. Not long after its release he was sent to a boarding school in Samoa for at-risk teens. which he was at for a year and a half. Not being able to record during his stay he returned to Los Angeles in 2012 before his 18th birthday. He later rejoined Odd Future and adopted a recording contract with their parent label Columbia Records to release his debut album, Doris.

In late 2022, one of my friends introduced me to a new artist. The artist's name is Tyler The Creator. Once I got into Tyler and dove into his history I discovered Odd Future, the group that Tyler and Earl were a part of from 2009 to 2015. The first Earl project that I listened to was Some Rap Songs. At first, I didn't understand it but later I grew to love it and it is this day one of my favorite Hip-Hop albums. During this time Tyler was by far my favorite artist but once I discovered Earl I developed a strong relationship with his music emotionally more so than Tyler. Earl's music has helped me through some trying times but also brought me up in good times. My favorite thing about his music is definitely his production with the chopped samples and drumless instrumentals.
