In a job interview, you speak with your future boss for the very first time. Even though you may not know how to fully work in the workplace yet, you want to convey the idea that you do through emphasizing key complimentary words like "Determined and Eager".

It's important to keep in mind that not only do you need to win over the thoughts of the interviewer but also that you, the interviewee, are also in competition with other candidates. Similar to persuasion, you have to be the best to get the position. While speaking about the company in question, you may speak in an assertive tone to prove your worth over the others.

Job Interviews like any other conversation are filled with cues and little gimmicks to help as they progress. Rather than constantly speaking up, I prefer the way of less is more. I can ask plenty of questions should I disagree with something, and that shows I have concerns. However, rather than say "Good or Amazing" for everything small I like that I hear a simple smile will suffice. Good spirits usually get further in the application process.

One of the simplest factors of communication is actually one of the most important, attention. As I listen and answer the questions my future boss asks, I'll be in a more relaxed stance while I speak ever so slightly. When the time comes, I'll sit up a bit and give them my full undivided attention. The reason isn't to appear shy, but to emphasize my voice more as I discussed in accenting. The goal is to complement what I say with how I react to my body.

Of all the 6 major ways verbal and nonverbal communication play off each other in a job interview, contradiction is the one that is the opposite. Rather than it being important to display the methods, it's actually important I do not do them under any circumstances. Most of the time job interviews are on a one-strike-out basis, the last thing I would want to do is be deceitful in the face of opportunity. Let's say I spoke super ecstatically about having the chance to prove myself, this is a great approach, the problem is if I sat around daydreaming or seeming bored when the time came to listen. Or even worse I spoke about cleanliness I constantly rubbed my nose.

Even though I'm technically not in control, in a job interview it is my goal to take control of the conversation. The reality is that I am timed to make the best impression possible with this person. The majority of companies love when employees take initiative in situations that allow it. Attentiveness is also greatly appreciated at times as well. As I speak of the skills in my reservoir, I could use my eyes to bring attention to other important things I might want to discuss. I could linger on a mission statement, or on a company ad, things that could provide insight into what I'm getting into.

What's one thing everyone values in life? Safety. It's true I can be appropriate for the occasion, but that doesn't necessarily mean to be stoic. I and no one else is a robot, as humans, we all will act as such. Let's say I hear that the overturn rate is abysmal, I would follow with a "Really?" with a slightly lowered eyebrow and head turn. The goal is to not give the impression I lost respect for the company, but instead to investigate why it's that way. Regardless of how true that statement might yield in my mind.

To reiterate my point from before, I want to show my best foot and really sell my ability as a useful addition. The final thing I should do is change certain mannerisms for others. Rather than interrupting to ask what time it is or how much time is left, it would be the better choice to glance at my watch as I speak or when there is downtime in the conversation. I do not act selfishly, and I show I have a concept of time.

Like when the time comes to check on how long you've endured in the interview, I also could opt out of other moments to use gestures instead of speaking. A great example is when I agree with something I hear, sure I could say something like "Yeah, or MmmHmm", but in my opinion, it is much more effective with a simple head nod.
