This video camera is very important because it represents one of the main ideas that this story shows which is all about surveillance and privacy. All of the citizens of Oceania are being observed and they're all oblivious to it and have nothing to do about it.

This peak in curiosity from writing gives Winston the fuel he needs to begin his revolt. From there, it is only a matter of time before he may run the party into the ground or he gets shut down and the worlds remains as before.

1. Propaganda
- Oceania has many mindless followers that are not aware of the information they are being fed on a daily basis about other nations, food supply, and idols.
- These citizens have hate weeks which are targeted towards the enemies of the party which happen to change pretty much weekly. Oceania can like a nation one moment and then hate them the very next.

2. Revolution
- Winston seemed like the very first hope at a revolution by the reader until he was able to make connections with Julia and O'Brien which both give him the help he needs.
- Julia may not be totally against the party, rather just bored actually, but she is right by Winston's side which gives him the confidence he needs to keep moving forward.

3. Standing out
- Usually, standing out is something that you would want to do, but in this book it is the exact opposite. Winston decides to get a little bit too risky with this rule and gets captured along with Julia.
- The risk taking was quite a bad decision because they happened to move above a member of the thought police when they used the room above the shop.

I believe that the main idea that this story is trying to give off to the reader is that a person needs to stand up in what the believe in even if you are not part of the majority. The author doesn't want you to be afraid of what you have to do to express your opinion. Winston represents this well because he shows tremendous courage by the risks he is willing to take for what he believes is right.
