Implications
As health educators, we may be asked to take a leading role due to our subject specific knowledge. However, in order for the programme to reach the whole school level, collaboration between teachers and departments must occur.

How does it affect the future?
- If delivered correctly, the key messages may be beneficial for future experiences where AoD are present. This will allow for a cohort that has a depth of knowledge surrounding safety in the instance that they may be using AoD.

Critical questions
- Should we be focusing on prevention, or should the focus be on safety strategies?
- Should vapes and e cigarettes' be included/have a lead focus in this programme?

WHAT:
The purpose of this guide is to provide schools with an introduction to AoD education programmes. There are two main focus contexts; first being, School-wide health promotion activities and secondly, Curriculum teaching and learning programmes in the HPE learning area.

The consequences of AoD programmes could be that teachers do not have enough knowledge and skills to teach/educate our akonga well enough for this to work effectively. Programmes like this would have to be embedded into the school taught over a long period to cater for our akonga's variety learning needs, as stated one off AoD events do not deliver enough information effectively for all students to learn from them. Ensuring the right amount of resources are available to our schools to utilize.

What is my role in the Policy?
- Our role as Kaiako is to provide a supportive environment to our students, community, and teachers where we model appropriate behavior that will help shape their values, attitudes and behaviors.
- Facilitate quality learning with the specific knowledge, understanding and expertise in order to educate these AoD programmes effectively.

Implications:
Implications regarding AoD as stated previously would be lack of knowledge, teachers may find it difficult having to educate on a subject they are not confident in. an implication could also be that schools might not being clear enough about the changes and outcomes they want form their akonga, causing them to lead down the wrong path for near future.

How does it affects the future? Why is it important?
- This programme is designed to reduce the use of AoD for our akonga, to build resilience and develop positive behaviors. Leading our akonga to make the right choices in life. Supporting our students to lead in the right path. It is important to introduce this to our akonga in the early teen stages so that they are exposed (if havent been already) to this content and ensure they know the consequences later in life, to allow a safe environment for akonga to take action.

Critical Questions;

Does this programme meet the needs and interests of our akonga appropriately within the school, what age do we start education ? How young is to young?

How could we structure the programme so that our intentions are clear and focused specifically on safety or prevention?
