This source's core message is to depict the trends of political fashion and expression throughout history by highlighting specific movements and moments. This article also explores the designers' role in enabling consumers to use their clothes to tell their stories. This source is important for emphasizing not only the relationship between the designers and their designs, but also the repeated intention to use this form of expression in creative and political ways. This source includes quotes from a range of individuals, and these quotes can be very effectively used in the Image/text project to enhance the images they accompany.

This video explores how fashion can be used to challenge and reject stereotypes. Dr. Christine Shaw-Checinska seeks to examine assumptions about race and gender identity in relation to fashion and its ability to push back against these sentiments. This source focuses on the implications of fashion in everyday life and explores these implications through the lens of racial and cultural identities. Dr. Shaw-Checinska offers an outlook that offers more nuance and lived experiences of marginalized communities than the typical Eurocentric fashion industry. This source teaches the importance of political fashion and offers a deep dive into how it is used by specific communities, which could serve as the basis for the Interactive Project.

The core message of this article is to offer a closer look at a specific designer and their work in radicalizing fashion. Vivienne Westwood created her brand, which offered punk-rock-esque self-expression and sought to discover new ways to stand out for what you believe in through political fashion. This source also critiques other brands' attempts to commodify political fashion through branding and performative campaigns. This critique provides an avenue of inquiry to employ during the video project when speaking to those around me. The concept of performative protest in the world of political fashion is ironic, but unfortunately, increasingly common.

The core message of this source highlights the connection between fashion, as an intersection of cultural and ethnic heritage, and personal identity. Politics is personal; the expression of politics is closely related to an individual's personal style and cultural background. Female authorship, or constructing your own story, is critical to furthering identities alongside political fashion.

This video explores the lasting implications and challenges of fashion trends from women before us. The historical nuances of fashion are shaped by individual perspectives. For some formerly enslaved women, "liberating" styles of clothing worn by white women reminded them of the clothes they were forced to wear before their freedom. Liberation has ties to fashion, but at the individual and personal level. This core message could provide a basis for a storymap or timeline to examine the differences and nuances between liberation and fashion.

This New York Times Article offers visual accounts of feminism and how protests become stages for self-expression through political fashion. The pink hats adorned by numerous attendees of the Women's March in 2017 were a direct protest against the misogynistic and abusive rhetoric continuously used by Donald Trump. These images offer a powerful depiction of the unity of feminism and self-expression, as employed by the masses toward a common goal. These images would work as inspiration for the Image/Text project and gives a unique perspective for the accompanying author's note.

This source looks at how fashion can be used to examine the intersectional relationship between feminism and consumerism. The author examines how the fashion industry has shifted to accommodate the resurgence of modern-day feminism and the new angles it offers for examining capitalist culture. This source offers a less obvious but equally important angle on political fashion. If capitalism is politics, then how bodies and clothes are marketed and commodified become political, too. This source could be used for an informative video project, or it could be used to connect capitalistic society and fashion in an image/text project.

In this video, Santa Claus is seen delivering a wrapped up box of asbestos to the Prime Minister, in a lighthearted display of asking for accountability on the risks of fracking. This was used in the research of my Telar visual narrative, and was featured alongside the information of one of the steps.

This video shows the Vivienne Westwood Red Label Spring/Summer 2013 runway show. This look featured slogan graphic tees that advocate for Climate Revolution. I chose this video because of the final few moments, when Westwood appeared on stage to close out the show. Her outfit and message were eccentric and silly displays of protesting a serious message, and I wanted to feature it in my video project.
