-The advantages of using the scientific method is that the research helps validate by the assumptions being made. The disadvantages is that while scientist are observing people are more difficult to understand, predict and control rather than working in a lab with chemicals of such.

Also, it is the researchers job to protect the participants from any physical or mental harm. 
-Confidentiality: Researchers must be responsible for all the data that they collect on the participants and are liable to keep the data anonymous and confidential. 
-Debriefing: After the study is completed, the participants should be informed of the purpose of the study and the methods that were used during the study.
