  • In order to be elected the President of the United States an individual must be 35 years of age or older, must have been living in the United States for 14 years, and must be a natural born citizen of the United States.
  • The executive branch includes the president, vice president, the white house staff,  national security council, close advisors to the president, press secretary, and others.
  • The President enforces the laws that the legislative branch (Congress) makes. 
  • Executive orders are recorded in the Federal Register and considered binding, but they are subject to legal review and the federal courts can knock them down.
  • The Cabinet of the Executive Office includes 15 departments.

    • Makes the citizenship of former slaves part of the constitution, removing any potential legal challenges or  legislative to deny the benefits of freedom to those formerly held as slaves. This amendment was largely a reaction to the attempts of Southern states to so restrict the movements and activities of African-Americans as to return them to something very much like slavery.
