Isabella
Sarah Kay
(poem)
1. I like the way that she uses figurative speaking and personification in her words,

2. I like her tone, her pauses and the words that she puts emphasis on certain words.

3. I enjoy her body language, the way she moves with her words and walks around, this gives the poem a very natural aspect, making it seem like these words are just pouring out of her heart without it being forced in any way.

4. I like the way that she combines very sophisticated language with natural and conversational language, for me, it makes it easier to understand her words and her delivery.

(TedTalk)

1. "don't think too hard" she is able to keep it simple, she wants people to think about something that comes to mind rapidly so that it is an idea they understand and are able to elaborate on.

2. I like her term for spoken word poetry, how she defines it as poetry that demands to be shared and to connect with others.

3. I enjoy how she was able to connect with her passion of spoken word poetry, she started from a young age and took in any opportunity she had to learn and practice.

4. I love the way she took her passion and shared it with others, she took it upon herself to teach younger kids and teenagers about poetry and writing.

5. I like how she tries to be open to opportunity and possibility, I like the way she said she walks through like with open arms.

6. "I like spoken word poetry because it is accessable to anyone"

7.

She uses strange metaphors to instill interest in the poem and uses fundamentally modern metaphors to make her poetry more approachable; For a modern target audience, she does not want to produce a world-altering philosophical poem that is ripe with symbolism but generally keeps things reasonably simple to facilitate understanding in her audience.
Her poem is also rather comedic a lot of the time to make the nature of the poem less grim; her delivery carries the poem that would otherwise be fairly mediocre. This is less a poem and more of an audible performance. She really just uses the poem as a setup for her more elaborate message later on. She is trying to market her style of poetry and transfer it to a larger audience. Emphasizes her art form is capable of more than bast indignity. She will often position her body in certain ways to mimic what she talking about. Uses cliche thematic messages to make things familiar to the audience.
Makes performance poetry a feasible mode of action. She is remarkably good at modulating the tone of her voice, many of the things she says are not really even poetic she makes them so by speaking in such a way that they are transmuted into something of an entirely different nature and shape. She does seem to have managed to hold the classroom's attention for 18 minutes, with a very small number of my peers speaking or doing something separate from class. This is indicative of the nature of the poem. The entire video was a poem.

SARAH KAY

Delivery
- She uses inflection when expressing distinct emotions, this also serves as a tool to hook the audience and grab their attention.

- Her facial expressions change from time to time. Depending on what she is going to communicate, her face helps her to emphasize the emotion she is trying to exhibit.

- Her non-verbal language reflects the theme and mood of a poem, this additional factor facilitates the breaking of the barrier between the abstract meaning of the poem, and the poet's true intention/meaning for it.

Content
1. The general content of the poem is rich with various poetic literary devices (similes, metaphors, and hyperbole).

2. Her delivery and content are well synergized, due to the fact that they both compensate one another. If the mood is to inspire, then the delivery will use expressions, gestures, and a voice volume that align with the intended purpose to instill.

3. Her Ted Talk is versatile by both presenting poetry and elaborating on why poetry is for everyone, it is both to inspire and inform others about writing poetry.

Speech (The 4 steps to writing a poem)

1. Everyone can write poetry.

2. Every person has something to say and to communicate.

3. People can relate with others' message and topic.

4. Others can inspire and motivate people to write poetry.

SHANE KOYZCAN

In contrast to Sarah Kay, Shane's poetic performance is less quick in execution and methodical. He begins much more slowly in the first half and later begins to pick up speed all whilst bringing a buffet of poetic literary devices that all connect to the topic and main ideas.

Delivery

-In the beginning, Shane's hand gestures are there to emphasize emotions/thoughts, they are not exaggerated but simple and done calmly.

- In the first half His voice is soft, it is not loud. His tone of voice is deep, and he speaks slowly. In the latter half, he begins to rise his tone of voice and his words are articulated faster.

- During the entire presentation, Does not move as much as Sarah Kay, he rather does slight movements.

Content

1. He is witty in how he expresses his ideas and feelings, but also by linking personal events to broader and more general topics that people can identify with, some that are themes that observable are (identity, meaning, purpose in life, abandonment, and bullying.)

2. Shane is communicating the topic of bullying as well as personal identity by using examples that can connect to others and resonate with all spectators.

3. Shane reinforces his conference by implementing a violinist and a cartoon movie to facilitate the viewer to imagine what he is meaning to say or show.

Speech's main idea/s
1. Trauma and its effects on a kid.

2. Standing up for yourself.

3. Utilizing poetry as a tool to express issues, worries, or struggles.

4. To this day, people are still bullied.

1. I like the way that he uses figurative speech when speaking of hiding his heart and getting shot down, this gives it a very personal aspect to the speech.

2. I truly enjoy his delivery of the speech, how he is standing very naturally with a hand in his pocket, how he is giggling as he says some personal or funny parts of the speech, how he does not hesitate or stutter when speaking, and how he uses pauses and speeding up in his tone. I feel he had a personal connection with the speech through his delivery, like he is telling us something not as spectators, but as his friends. He is able to incorporate jokes to lighten the mood in a funny and natural way.

3. "I will love myself despite the ease with which I lean upon the opposite" I enjoy that he does not spell out each part of the quote, he doesn't explain every part of it, but as a reader one is able to understand what he says.

4. I like the way that he tells stories, he includes other perspective and dialogue, he explains his thinking as well as the situation, finally he uses imagery to describe things such as the story, the school, the teachers and the tree.

5. I like the slide presentation of he used as he says his poem, it gives readers a visual connection to the words he is saying.

6. great change in speed, volume and emphasis on his words.

7. really like the passing of time and the change of time within the poem he says.

8. really enjoy how he tells the girl's story and then shifts to the boy's story to show both perspectives equally, this lets one know hoe depression and bullying affected two different people similarly and differently in many ways.

9. like the message in his poem about bullying.

10. impressed by how he was able to memorize such a long poem, and truly connect with each of the words and the audience in his delivery.

11. I really like the incorporation of the violin, it gives the poem not only a musicality, but it puts emphasis on the words he says when the violin stops, like saying, "this is important, listen up!"

However, it comes to show of the multitude of people that are bullied every day and the struggles that they have as a result of it.
Talks about his own personal life, using different tones and speech rates in order to express the ideas conveniently.
His speech delivery is outstanding, even though at first he mentioned that there were many people, it shows that he is very well-prepared and that he feels comfortable talking. Not to mention how he interacts with the audience, in some cases through humor. Furthermore, his hand gestures along with his face expressions correlates very well with what he is saying.
He seems very familiar with the use of figurative language, one that really intrigued was, "as if broken bones hurt more than the names we got called."
The rhythm is really spaced out in the poem, nevertheless he is able to control it and changes it whenever he feels that the emotion has shifted.

- uses different speeds which makes the poetry have more intention and even does pauses.
- tells a story about personal experience.
- he does very natural hand gestures and body expressions. For example, he has his hand in his pocket most of the time, and when he talks about something important he takes it out.
- Shane uses different voices to refer that different people are talking in the story.
- I liked how he explained year per year a personal experience talking about bullying.

I liked how Shane uses humor to interact with the audience. He constantly shares funny experiences about his topic which makes the audience laughs. Also, I liked how Shane presented a video to demonstrate what bullying feels like. Further, I believe that the violin in the background makes Shane's voice stand out and makes it very intense.

He began telling the story of his own childhood with a funny and relaxed tone. However, as he began relating his experiences to others in his poem, it took a dark twist to send out a serious message. This showed me how even though he is laughing about it years later, bullying is not something funny and something that can scar someone for life. Also, I feel that by telling us how he experienced it himself built trust and relatability with the audience.

He is telling a story about his life and his childhood, where many emotions were mixed. When he is telling something sad you can see it with his tone and his facial expression and that makes the poem look more intense. He also added rhythm to his words and even had a violin playing in the background. Furthermore, he uses change of speed to show his emotions, as well as using humor to interact with the audience. Finally, he uses hand expressions and uses his life examples to make it easier for him to tell the poem and the audience to understand the poem.
