The Jungle brought awareness to the food sanitation and the working conditions of workers in the meat industry. These reforms connect to our lives today because things like the FDA are still in place and they still monitor the food that we receive. And if it wasn't for the reforms our food and the working conditions would still be unsanitary and harsh.

The Meat Inspection Act also plays a big role, if the people did not make it today our meat would be terrible unhealthy, unclean, etc. It would cause way more people to get sick and maybe even die. Not to mention the working conditions in the meat producing factories were terrible and unclean. There were people in this time called Muckrakers who wrote about the problems going on and how they wanted to slove them and bring awareness. One of the biggest reforms of the Progressive Era was the use of unions and muckrakers. Muckrakers shed light on the reality of the unfair working conditions of people working in the food industry or in general factories. With their investigative reporting it brought with them the creation of the FDA and USDA due to the lack of sanitation in this era. Unions played a major role in changing the working conditions of people in factories in this time. Collective groups of workers would protest working until wages were raised, hours were shorter, and conditions were better. Sinclairs book however was a start to making laws and bettering the workplace. There was long workouts in dangerous working conditions ad polluted air. This lead to global warring which we know about today ad we also ave minimum wage ad working laws. You ca only work a certain amount of hours per day ad you have to be older than 16. This connects to life today because we see how what went on than, affects us or has changed today.
