The beginning and end of the story are very similar and depict the deconstruction of the house in which he lived his life. This reversion suggests that the 'journey back to the source' is the natural world. This is a stark contrast from the kinds of beliefs he forms as young adult as he is influenced by the culture and religious beliefs that surround him. He is haunted by images of Saint Denis who, according to legend, was beheaded and continued to journey on foot until he eventually died a martyr and later became patron saint of France.
