The contrast of light and dark

I think the contrast of light and dark is making this piece of artwork really romantic. The man in the center of this picture is the only the one who is wearing a bright colored clothes. Other people are wearing dark color clothing like black, dark green, brown and etc. Because of this light and dark contrast, it will make people ’s attention to the man in the center. Also, it will make like he is in the middle of drama and all of the spot lights are collected to him which will makes it dramatic. Also the background is a complete black which will make things in front stand out.

Soldiers are lining up in line which will makes them like a robot. Compare to that, people being afraid are placed randomly which will makes them human-like. We can see their emotion by how much people are being frighten.

BLOOD

I can see different color is used for blood. The blood on the dead body, light red, wineish red is used and for the blood on the ground, orangeish red is being used. I guess artist wanted to make a time difference. The blood on the ground is the blood that people was killed long time ago, and blood on the dead people shows that people had been killed in recents. This also shows that not only people in the picture, more people had been killed by this army.

The brush work

I think the brush work of this artwork is giving the energy and movement to it making it romantic. If we look at a man wearing the white shirt, being pointed by a gun, the brush work is very rough and careless which seems like he was being drawn very quickly. This gives a motion to the man and gives us a sense that the man just raised his hands up. The brush work impacts the quality of the art work and the rough, quick brushworks make it possible to draw a particular moment on a canvas.
