During the eighth stage of development (mature adult), the conflict is to do with the ego integrity and despair (what a person wants to continue to be or do and what they find they can no longer be or do)
The person may spend a great deal of time thinking about memories/feeling and may find it difficult to accept what has changed and move on.

He may worry about Seb and Emma as he might know how dangerous their father/husband is and want to protect them.

He will have an attachment to Emma as a dad (Erikson) He might be afraid of Emma rejecting him if he is too critical which could make him feel powerless.
