Today is the first day of this COVID-19 historical journal. It's currently 9:55 am. The total cases in the United States, as of today, are 140, 904 cases. The United States now contains the most coronavirus cases in the world. New York contains by far the most cases, with 59,219 cases, and although Washington is not leading, our state still has 4,506 cases. Hospitals are definitely struggling during this time, as the cases are coming very fast without enough hospital spaces for those who are infected. The United States is in an economical breakdown because thousands of people have lost their jobs. Even in Pullman, Washington, local businesses are struggling without customers or financial aid. The cases are spreading very rapidly in populated cities, like New York City, where the virus has infiltrated the jails, which is yet another problem for our country. However, nurses, doctors, and medical workers are working extremely hard to help as many people as possible, and the U.S. Navy has sent in a hospital ship to NYC to help the overflow in hospital patients.

Today is the second day of this COVID-19 historical journal. It's currently 9:22am. The death toll has surpassed the fatalities in 9/11 with about 3,100 deaths. More than 900 people have died in Manhattan alone, and yesterday 500 people died, which is the most in a day since the pandemic started 6 weeks ago. In the United States, there are now 164,000 confirmed cases and worldwide there are 803,000 with 39,000 fatalities. Central Park has now opened to serve as a 68-bed hospital, as the hospitals are spilling over with patients. However, New York’s cases are seeming to flatten just a little bit. This is great news, because if we can flatten the curve of COVID spread, then hospitals will not be as overwhelmed.

Today is the third day of this COVID-19 historical journal. Cases in the US have climbed to more than 185,000. This is 20% of the total number of cases in the world. The death toll has surged past 4,000 with 800 deaths yesterday. While our governor, Governor Inslee, has put limits on statewide interaction, about a dozen states, including Florida have not. I find this to be very ignorant considering that Florida contains the majority of people killed by the virus, which is people over 60, as well as the fact that Florida contains the 5th most number of cases. Economically, our stock markets are crashing rapidly, but many people have been trying to still support local businesses by buying online or ordering takeout from local restaurants. However, with the growing number of cases, this type of interaction may also be limited. Washington is 8th in the country’s ranking for most cases, but our cases seemed to have slowed in our state, which is good, but we still need to work on slowing down the rapid spread of New York’s cases.

This is the 4th journal entry of this Historical COVID-19 journal. Currently in the US, there are 217,105 cases and worldwide there are almost 1 million cases. Deaths in the US have hit 5,000 and worldwide they have hit 50,000. Washington is now in 10th in the global rankings with just under 6,000 cases, and New York still remains #1 in the pandemic rankings with 84,046 cases. Unfortunately, they are running out of ventilators due to the rapid spread of infection, so the government is cracking down on people defying stay-at-home orders. While cases are going up, the economical crisis is still a problem as 6.6 million Americans have filed for unemployment, and 10 million jobs have “vanished.”

This is the fifth day of this historical COVID-19 journal. The total number of cases in the United States is 245,975 and the total worldwide cases have passed 1 million. There are now 6,126 deaths in the U.S. and the most deaths recorded in the U.S. was yesterday, April 2, when there were 1,000 in a single day. New York still struggles to find ventilators to distribute to match the rapid speed of the virus. Hospitals and morgues are still struggling to meet demands and the number of cases is still growing fast. The unemployment rates have grown to 10 million Americans applying for unemployment in just the last two weeks. However, the government is trying to account for this by giving a share of $350 billion to small businesses to try to help slow the economical crisis, which will hopefully help work things out.
