I really want to go to Spain with my cousins. Some of my cousins are in a Spanish emersion school in Utah. This means that they (Maya, Jada, and Tia) know Spanish really well because they speak it in class all day every day.

I picked Mexico because my favorite Hispanic artist is Frida Kahlo. I think Hispanic heritage month is important because it celebrates Spanish speaking countries all over the world. I feel like all places should celebrate and do a holiday like Hispanic heritage month because it is so empowering to know where you are from and it makes you feel proud of where you are from.

So I don't celebrate Hispanic heritage month but I would like to and I would love to learn all about it. This is why I was so excited when I got this project to do this year. For something I did I didn't cook or do anything like that I did a painting of myself kind of like the way Frida Kahlo would do it except it was me. I always loved Frida Kahlo as an role model for women because I think it's so empowering that she was the first Hispanic woman that I really knew that did painting and I just think that is so cool.

Frida Kahlo kind of inspired me to get into art myself because I love art and doing crafts. It calms me down a lot and when I have a long day at school it just makes me feel so good. It makes me feel really calm when I just get to do knitting or sewing or something like that because it's just the way it works. It doesn't need to be perfect it just needs to be how I like it.

For my Hispanic Heritage Month Project, I chose to make Chicken Tinga. Chicken Tinga is shredded chicken in a spicy adobo sauce. After I made the chicken Tinga, I put it on a tortilla and added toppings like avocado, cheese, sour cream, lime juice, and cilantro. The Chicken Tinga was super spicy, but delicious at the same time! I chose to make this project because I love to cook and try different dishes. This would definitely be something that I make again. For my project I drew the Spanish flag and learned about it. I chose to do this project because I think it is interesting how Spain is on a different continent then the other Hispanic countries. The reason for that is because Spain were the first Europeans to reach South America, so lots of countries speak Spanish like Spain. I also think that the Spanish flag has a very interesting design. Each of the parts of the flag stand for something. The crown stands for the kingdom of Spain. The castle stands for the kingdom of Castilla. The Lion stands for the kingdom of Leon. The stripes stand for the kingdoms of Aragon. The chain shield stands for the kingdom of Navarra. The center stands for the royal house of Bourbon-Anjou. The pillars on the side represent the Straight of Gibraltar. The red and yellow could represent many different things. One legend from the 11th century says it stands for the king’s blood on his gold shield. Another says it is a bull’s blood on the sand after a bull fight. The red officially stands for strength and bravery, and the yellow stands for generosity. Two fun facts are that it wasn't officially adopted until 1981, and that they only fly the flag with the coat of arms in government buildings. A lot of flags just have the colors. It is important to celebrate Hispanic Heritage because lots of Hispanics have made big contributions to our community, and it is important to recognize that.

I received a Dulce de Leche cookbook for my birthday, and I thought this would be the perfect time to bake something from it. I made Pumpkin Pionono, or pumpkin roll cake with cream cheese dulce de leche filling. At first I made homemade dulce de leche, which took around 2 hours to finish. Next, I baked the cake, made the filling, and rolled the cake. I think Hispanic Heritage Month is important because Hispanics changed America. They taught us their culture, food, and overall way of living. I cannot imagine life without Hispanics, because they are so important in our world.

Hispanic Heritage Month really brings everything and everyone together. An example can be food, lots of restaurants and some of your favorite foods might have been invented by Hispanics or are from there! For example Paella, from Spain is a amazing dish with many variants. The one that I am familiar with is with mussels, clams, rice, pepper, peas, fish stock, chicken, chorizo, and lots of spices. This is how my dad makes it and it is amazing. He was inspired from many other Paella recipes and made his own original Paella, which he taught me how to make! I chose Spain because the country really inspires me and I love so many things about it.

I decided to do 3 different things for this project, which include drawing, dancing, and baking. I picked this project because it was a way to show all the things I like to do (even if I am not good them) and I had so many ideas to do, that I wanted to show. The first thing that I did was draw the Columbian flag on a Papel Picado from Mexico because I love to draw, and I thought both were very beautiful and had many facts about them. The next thing I did was do a traditional dance from Mexico called Jarabe Tapatio with my sister, because it was a very fun dance and allowed me to hang out with my sister. The last thing I did was bake Alfajores, cause baking is one of my favorite things to do, and it was a very fun treat to give to my family. We should celebrate Hispanic Heritage month because Hispanics contribute so much to today’s society, and the world would be different without them.

Venezuela is located in the Northern most part of South America, and it has beautiful beaches, mountains, deserts and the rain forest where the highest waterfall in the world "El Salto Angel" is located.
The typical Venezuelan dish is the Pabellon Criollo, which is white rice, black beans, shredded beef and fried plantains, and it is accompanied by our famous Arepas!
During December, the main dish in all homes is the Hallaca, Pan de Jamon and Ensalada de Gallina. This is the traditional Christmas dish.
Thanks to the Hispanic Heritage Month for the opportunity it gives us to showcase the beautiful diversity of Spanish speaking countries, their cultures and landscapes.

Hola, me llama Maya! Hello, my name is Maya! For this project I chose to represent Spain. I am going to talk about the HUGE tomato fight they do each year.
La Tomatina is a fun fight with tomatoes held once a year in a small town is Spain. 20,000 people came from around the world to take part in the world's largest food fight! La Tomatina is celebrated on the last Wednesday of August. To get things started, there is a tall, greasy pole with a ham hanging on the top of it. Really, no one is supposed to start throwing tomatoes until someone has climbed the greasy pole and gotten the ham. People get tired of waiting and they just begin throwing tomatoes. At 11 a.m. a firework goes off and this marks the true beginning of the tomato throwing, several trucks bring in approximately 320,000 pounds of tomatoes. The fight lasts about an hour. The streets are washed off by fire trucks.

One thing I love about Spain is the food. The food has such rich flavors and seasoning that it separates it from any other country. My favorite dish is Paella. Paella is a plate of rice that has been cooked with many spices and normally has some type of seafood in it. It also has Lemon and oysters to add more flavor. It is very important that I celébrate Hispanic Heritage month because I have lots of Family in Spain and I truly need to understand where they came from and all the hard work they have done.

The object with the cross and people caring it is a handmade cross from Peru. The other object is a turtle flute instrument also handmad and from Peru. The last item is a hand woven alpacka scarf also from Peru. All these Items have came from Peru when my Grandmother visits their. Hola, mi llamo Aili, mi pais es Mexico, y este es mi Proyecto para el Mes de la Hispanidad.

I chose to do a Mexican Fiesta, because my grandma has been to Mexico and has a lot of plates and decorations for when she went to Mexico. I thought that it would be fun to do a Mexican Fiesta because I have seen them in pictures and videos, but I have never been to one before and I would love to go to one in the future.
My grandma also has a mobile. It’s a string that holds on to the ceiling, it has a base and some more strings dangling fish down. It is SO cool!! I think Hispanic Heritage month is special, because there are a lot of families and kids in the world who don’t get to show who they are, and Hispanic heritage month celebrates them for who they really are! This is my Hispanic heritage month project.

For my project, I chose the piñata, representing Spanish Heritage month. The Aztecs and the Mayans both adorned a richly decorated pot, filled with tiny treasures, to celebrate the birthday of their gods. In the 14th century, the Spanish missionaries to north America used the piñata to attract converts to their ceremonies. The original and traditional piñata has seven points symbolizing the seven sins: envy, sloth, gluttony, greed, lust, anger, and pride. The ten pointed piñata symbolized the sins that came from breaking the ten commandments. The stick which is used to break the piñata represents and symbolizes love. It is supposed to destroy the sins by hitting and breaking the piñata into pieces. The candies and treats that come pouring out from the broken piñata show the forgiveness of sins and a new beginning. This tradition which is over 700 years old, is a great way to show how Hispanic Heritage month is used today in tradition for celebration. It is important to learn about cultures and different traditions so that we can appreciate them and understand them.

It was a very easy food to make, all you have to do is lay down a tortilla on a pan and put cheese on top and let it melt then you fold it and you are done. some people like to put other toppings on it like corn, chicken, beans, and sometimes rice. Many other things. I just did cheese because that is what I like.

I decided to choose Panama for my country because a lot of people choose Spain, and Mexico for their countries; I wanted my Hispanic heritage project to be different. I believe it is important to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month because without Hispanic heritage, we wouldn’t have everyday music, toys, or even a Spanish class to go to (I know, right)!
