         <description><![CDATA[<div>Interesting conference poster on MS Teams in building community.  Our students are primarily international (LMICs) and struggle to engage with discussion boards - difficult to access via smart phone/fear of posting something wrong/focus on assessment + marks rather than process.  Whatsapp is the default for communication within the community of learners but many issues with this.  Is MS Teams the answer? </div>]]></description>

         <title>&quot;A community of practice  is a group of people who &quot;share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly&quot; There remain many key issues relating to inequity and differential attainment within our learning environments - some uncomfortbale as Black Lives Matter has highlighted so painfully. More research into the hidden curriculum using  theories such as CoP , social networks etc is needed to enhance our understanding  but at the end of the  day caring interaction is essential As  Maya Angelou said &quot;people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”</title>

         <title>Building community is important for our students -- and in my experience (and on asynchronous platforms) there needs to be some goal in mind, something that the community is working towards. This gives purpose to the interactions. When aligned with what happens synchronously in the classroom and with assessment and learning outcomes this can work very well.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many of us are missing the  informal, incidental contacts we used to have with students (and each other), and my students tell me they also miss this most. Asynchronous contacts have many advantages but I really think we need to build in some synchronous, small group, sessions too that give opportunities for informal chat.</div>]]></description>
