I believe that music means a series of notes that has harmony, or is "catchy". Any series of sounds that produces a harmony, has a pleasing tune, or sequence that you like, can be considered music.
To me, the defining elements of music are harmony, notes, chords, and rhythm. In my opinion, what sets music apart from just a conglomerate of noises, is rhythm, harmony, and how all the sounds compliment one another. These notes, vocal noises, pitches, and lyrics can all induce emotions in the listener, whether they be happy, sad, angry, longing, content, or any that the artist wants to convey. In truth, it is up to the listener how they perceive the song.
I believe the purpose of music is for one to express themself. To create something you like to hear, that you want to share with the world. To listen to something pleasing, that inspires you or makes you feel strong emotions. Music is not only entertainment, but a language understood by the whole world. Almost everyone loves music, even if they do not understand the language a song is being sung in. Music brings harmony and is very significant in my life.
