Since there was a drought that forced there to be no water to get to the plants so then the food for the birds went away so then the birds population dies off. This shows the natural selection because it is showing how the birds get changed over time because the the things that happened to the environment.

So with the drought happening the portulaca plant died off so the birds lost there main food supply and with that happening the birds had to find a way to get another type of food supplies. This shows natural selection because the plant dies off on its own with the change that happened with the envirnment.

So the birds beaks eventually gather at a average beak length of 11.61 mm and an average beak depth of 10.55 mm. This shows natural selection because the beak changes over time because the difference and change of the environment that the birds how to then adapt to with there beak being to big for there new plants.

So the conclusion to all of this is that the mechanism of microevolution that caused the beak size of a medium ground finch population to increase on Daphne Major from 1976 to 1978 is natural selection. It is natural selection because there was a drought that happened which forced the birds main food supply to die off and there beaks were to big for there other food supply.
