In 1951, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. began doctoral studies in systematic theology at Boston University, during that time he asked a friend named Mary Powell if he knew any nice southern girls, Mary went and talked to Coretta Scott; Coretta allowed King to call her and King told Coretta, "I am like Napoleon at Waterloo before your charms," which she replied with "You haven't even met me" Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. married Corretta Scott on June 18, 1953, on the lawn of her parents' house. Years later they became a family of six.
