Simplicity is a reason for belief when the science behind something is too much to understand or comprehend.
For example in California a few month ago there was a beaming light in the sky and most people choose the simple answer of UFO's when it was really one of SpaceX's prototypes being tested at a nearby military base.
People failed to use their critical thinking skills and went directly to a simple and cool answer.

People will tend to believe in things more when it follows their ideological line of thinking. Things that influence peoples ways of thinking are political stance, religious ideologies, as well as how, when and where people were raised. For example some religious people associate gay people with the devil. This is because they are taught to believe that. A recent thing in the news was that of gay Checnyian men being tortured and killed because of their sexual orientation.

Emotional Contentedness - Reason for Belief #3

Humans are generally a very emotionally connected species, generating friendships, romances, and always having a drive to be connected with others socially. When we loose someone we care about dearly it hurts, and some people like to believe in life after death, and that there family member is still with them in a soul form. This kind of thinking can skew rationale thought because it invokes emotions. For example a light turns off when your thinking of your lost loved one, some may believe it was their spirit when it really the light burned out.

Conformation Bias - Red Flag #1

Conformation bias is when people use things, or remember things that conform to their beliefs as a reason to believe. For example a medical doctor from the UK wrote a paper that stated vaccines cause autism, that was later discredited. This was because he believed that they did so he used only research that backed that thought up.

Some people will believe things just because a person in power such as politically, or socially says so, even if its not the truth. An example of this is when Harry Anslinger started a campaign in the 1930's to prohibit cannabis consumption. He demonized Mexican and black populations scaring the white middle class to support him. He used his power in the government to get this done. After 80 years some of the claims Anslinger made are being debunked.

All Natural - Red Flag #5

Many advertisers use words such as "all natural" to appeal to specific populations in the hopes of selling more products. Many of these claims are unfounded but people believe it because it says it. Genetically modified organisams (GMO's) have become very widespread over the past few decades, and many companies that produce GMO produce would claim that they are all natural when in reality they are not. The picture below depicts a natural tomato, infused with an unrelated gene to become an unnatural tomato.

Ideological Support - Red Flag #3

Ideological support is when a person or group uses mediums such as campaigns, or marches to rally attention and therefore support. What is being supported may not even correlate with the most recent scientific evidence. An example of this is the whole "Vaccinations cause autism" movement prompting more and more parents to not get their children vaccinated which has caused measles, mumps or rubella outbreaks in several parts of the world. The picture below is of a news report released last week about how there is a measles outbreak across Europe due to false information being released in the 90's. People jumped on board with ideological support and now we are facing the consequences.

Proof by Verbosity - Red Flag #4

Proof by verbosity is when people say a bunch of things and there is an information overload, even if what there saying has no ground you believe it because you are so confused by the amount of information thrown at you. A good example of this is Donald Trump. Donald Trump speaks with so much randomness no one knows what hes going on about yet he still has a very large constituent group that supports his decisions.
