Working on some of the earliest of computers, von Neumann is due much of the credit for our extensive technology today. His discovery of how computers could store and process programs influenced the future of computers greatly. Almost all computer systems today; be it desktop, laptop, or mobile phone; use von Neumann's technology. Without his work in the area of computers, we would not have the portability that we've come to expect from our electronic devices.

His work on the IAS and EDVAC computer systems led him to produce a system called von Neumann Architecture. The system allowed programs to be stored and processed within one main unit. This was von Neumann's main contribution to the world of computers. His system allowed for computers to decrease drastically in size.
