- the family resources survey is an annual report that provides facts and figures about the incomes and living circumstances of households and families in the UK
- Waldfogel and Washbrook children from higher income backgrounds do significantly better in terms or education and behavioural problems. 

wealth:
- hills et al - those in a lower social class have less wealth
-the poorest 50% of the population have only 10% of the UK's total wealth
- the Birmingham commission report found those in the top percent of the income distribution have seen huge increases in their incomes over the recent years 
-Tony Atkinson found that the percentage of the total UK wealth that is inherited is on the rise again which therefore refutes meritocracy 

poverty:
