Graphic Design 😊

NUR FAKHIRA SHARINA BINTI MD SHAFIE (A174902) 12 August 2022

1. The objectives of this project were fulfilled. The first objectives of understand the type, color, images and graphic elements in graphic design had been explore further in week 1 and week 2. I did have a great exposure to understand the elements and components of graphic designs. Besides, I also discovered second objective which I am able to apply the knowledge about grid, understand negative space and using appropriate margins in creating graphic design. This objective was fulfilled when I get to know more about the important of ‘Rules of Third” which play an important role to determine an equal grid together with appropriate negative space and margins in order to create professional-look designs. Next, the objective of creating an inspiration and creative designs for any platform checked ! By learning and gaining information about the components and techniques of graphic designs throughout this month definitely make me able to create better designs than before. In the meantime, I am able to appreciate the platform such as PowerPoint and Keynote. Creating a design in those platforms also benefits me in creating a theme for my presentation in future ! 😊

2. Learn and create ! Those word used to describe my project thoroughly. By choosing this project which is graphic designs as my elective posting definitely worth it. It gives me an opportunity to explore the designs and arts field. I liked this project so much as it provide a basic learning and tips of creating a creative and professional – looking designs. All the learning points was easy to be understand through the mini assignment given at the end of teaching sessions. As a beginner, I could understand and catch up all the learning points provided. Furthermore, I did perform well in every quiz provided in this course.

3. However, there always difficulty while exploring things especially when we are new to it. This project was easy to learn and understand but it was hard to apply it on a design. While creating a design, I found that it was very challenging in term of applying the components and techniques that I learned. My aim to create a design with professional – looking was still in progress. It was hard to create a one – page design with multiple messages. It must be arranged accordingly in order to make the audience understand it. A design must be at average rate because too simple, too empty and too many, too crowded.

4. In this project, I think that I can understand each of the learning points that been delivered. It is because, I am able to make a critique on a picture given in one of the assignments based on what I already learned.

5. I need to improve more in term of creating a design as I am still a beginner in this field. Carefully applying the component and techniques that I learned also need to be improve. In fact, I need more practice by times as a word goes ‘practice makes perfect’ 😊

Week 4 of 'Anneonghaseyo':)

CHAN TZE XIN, A174638, 13TH AUGUST 2022

1) All the objectives of this project are fulfilled such as I am able to speak in Korean more fluently and confidently as I've learnt many sentences in order for me to communicate in daily conversations! Other than that, I understood the Korean grammars that were taught throughout the six weeks and can differentiate on when and how to use them in different situations. Moreover, I am equipped with higher level of Korean vocabulary throughout the examples of conversations used as teaching materials as all of them were very similar to daily life conversations that we always use while talking with people around.

2) I actually found passion and talent in this Korean Language learning online course as I find myself enjoying it so much and is able to understand whenever the lecturers are trying to explain on the usage of each grammars even though there was a lack of subtitles. Despite the language barrier, it does not stop me from continuing to search more while trying to understand the grammar. I like the enthusiastic and spirit that I have throughout these four weeks as usually whenever I encounter a challenge especially language barrier, I might as well just gave up and lost hope on completing the task. The part that I like the most would be whenever I am able to score 100% for the test at the end of every lesson even though it's just a small achievement but that's what keeps me moving forward!

3) First of all would be the language barrier that I've mentioned above as they do not prepare subtitles whenever they try to explain on the grammars but luckily, I am able to understand most of the phrases used with the minimal knowledge I have in Korean Language. Secondly, would be time management, this is because I have started working outside and I've always felt tired whenever I reach home and would start procrastinating to complete the online lessons planned for the week. However, I am able come up with a time table in order for me to divide the videos required to be watched so that I can complete everything that I've planned for the week! Other than that, I find it hard to memorize the grammars learnt as I tend to forget them the next week since I don't really have a chance to apply them easily as my family members don't speak Korean Language. In order for me to overcome that, I've tried to call my friend as she's also taking the same course as I do so that we can practice together. I find this really helpful as I can easily memorize the grammars learnt whenever I remember what we've talked about through the phone calls!

4) Notes that I've jotted down on A4 papers are very helpful as I would write down notes in different languages whichever I'm comfortable in so that I am able to understand the usage of the grammar easily. I used different colours of pens and write down a few examples related to the grammar too! Everytime I watched a new episode of K-drama, I would focus to see whether are there any similar grammars used in the episode that are related to the grammars that I've just learnt for application purposes.

5) I need to improve in the depth of Korean grammar that I'm equipped with as I realised that I'm far from being able to really communicate and understand Korean Language fluently as I still have to depend on subtitles whenever I watched K-dramas. Moreover, I will continue to practice on the grammars that I've learnt and also communicate with my friends so that we can correct each other if there's any mistakes made.

WAN ABDUL AZIZ BIN WAN AZHAR, A173171, 14 August 2022

1. All three objectives were achieved during elective posting period. Through out the course I managed to understand the basics coding of python and also manage to practice during assessment given. Besides, I also able to debugging and error handling. Lastly, I also able to create simple applications that will be present during final report.

2. I had been looking forward to learn about programming since my high school. During four weeks of this course, I am very excited explored the thing that i am interested. The most enjoyable things that I had experienced, when I able to complete the task given after a lot of try and error. That feeling makes me very satisfied and eager to learn more.

3. The first step always the hardest. When i try to complete task or solve scenario, it is very challenging at first because most of the time I confused and sometimes blank on how plan and execute the code. However, after a proper planning things will get better along the way.

4. Since coding is more practical rather than theory keep practicing and try and error method really help me to have clearer idea about the functions of certain coding. Besides, other than the recorded lecture provided by the instructor, external source such as youtube and stack flow were really helpful for me to understand better about certain coding.

5. If I got the chance in future to pursue more knowledge about coding in future, I hope can improve this project by attending to a physical class and get direct guidance. It will be easier for me to refer to the supervisor.

I am very thankful as my course instructor lead me well for the past 4 weeks and enabled me to fulfil the objectives of this project. Now I have clear understanding of using the basic tools and techniques in Procreate App, I also tried create own brush in the brush studio which is quite interesting. Other than that, I also get better at designing and know how to use typography for better visual effect of art. Another awesome achievement for me is bringing art to life with the Animation Wizard from Procreate. Last but not least from my initial intention of create three art projects for this elective posting, now in the final week I am able to produce 22 artworks.

2. The most thrilling experience I get from this elective posting is making my own animation. It seems easy but believe me it is hard! Since young I have been watching countless of cartoon and animation and who knows it is so difficult to make one. I spent a week just to produce one 15 second animation video. I drew frame by frame of bird flying, catching fishes and eat it with my audio cover. It was definitely not easy but the process is truly worth it. I really enjoyed doing animation, I am satisfied with the animation I made even though it is not best quality.

3. As I mentioned in the last question, animation is the most enjoyable thing I did in this whole project but it was also the hardest for me to accomplish. Nevertheless, I tried my best, and just keep correcting my errors and finally I am able to perfect my animation.

4. Apart from animation which I think I did it well. I also feel satisfied with my scenery painting. Thank to James Julier Art from Youtube, I was able to learn scenery painting in a more expert way. The way he paint is very detailed and I am able to get his techniques and incorporate in my artworks. All in all, I have successfully created 5 scenery paintings which I truly like it and I will include them into my elective posting final video.

5. After 4 weeks of learning digital art, I realised I am still weak at realistic human face potrait painting. I would like to learn more bout this in the future. Perhaps, I can ask some tips and guidance from my colleague, Maryam to teach me as she is truly great when it comes to painting realistic face potrait as well as cartoon character.

Week 4 of Graphic Design

ARISYA UMAIRA BINTI AZAIDDIN A171601, 14th August 2022

1. I'm happy to say that all three objectives I laid out for the elective posting were achieved successfully. Firstly, I learnt about the various aspects of graphic design, such as imagemaking, typography and branding. Secondly, I was able to explore my interests and polish my skills in typography, which I have been passionate about since I was in primary school. On that note, I'm glad that the Elective Posting allowed us to explore our interests as I feel like I have indulged a part of my inner child by learning about typography. Thirdly, I wanted to explore my interests in the world of graphic design. With the certification and knowledge from Coursera, I have certainly opened my eyes to the various arts the world has to offer. I will no longer stare blankly at an image in the art gallery, in fact now I can conceptualize, analyse and critic the art pieces and try to understand what the artist is trying to say.

2. The part I liked most in the project was learning about the science behind graphic design. Graphic design does not only consist of arranging pretty things prettily, but it also involves tricking and attracting the human mind. I learnt about the marketing strategies used in the 90s, for example using a person as a logo (such as Colonel Sanders in KFC's logo) to show that the product is indeed made from a human and to encourage trust from the customers. I learnt that serif fonts are easier to read, and so I can practice this when I am making lengthy posts. Each font also has its own mood and history which tricks our brain into creating a scene in our own minds. This is all fascinating to me.

3. The hardest part for me were the assignments. Not coming from a design background, I was scared of getting bad marks for my assignments. If I was weak, I wouldn't get the certification in time, and only a few attempts were allowed each week. I put a lot of effort into my assignments, from those as simple as a moodboard to a whole brand style guide. Alhamdulillah, I'm happy that I managed to get the certification on my first try and my peer reviews showed promising responses.

4. I think a part that worked really well for me were the teaching videos offered on the website. They were short, compact and impactful. I learned a lot even though the videos were short. I managed to familiarise myself with terms that were once alien to me, such as Art Noveau. We were also allowed to peruse the materials and watch the videos at our own time, so I didn't feel any pressure to force myself to classes. I could easily watch the videos before I went to sleep or as soon as I woke up. It was enjoyable for me, so I didn't associate it with a lot of stress or seeing it as a chore.

5. In the future, if I were given the chance to learn again, I would love to get the opportunity to be present in a physical class with other artists, so that would allow me to explore their work, critic, ask for feedback, and to be around creative minds in general. If medicine is mostly black and white with spots of grey, design is most definitely a whole lot of grey, so the disparity between these two interests of mine spark a contrast that can only be satisfied with more knowledge and exposure.

Manjusree A/P Varadharajan, A177119, 14 August 2022

1. Yes! The objectives of this project were fulfilled. I never thought I would be able to learn digital art, but thanks to this posting and Domestika for helping me to break the boundaries of my limitations. I am now able to make digital art via Procreate and to animate my illustrations if necessary. The best part of this whole project is that I am able to enjoy the entire process and have fun while working on my artwork.

2. To be honest, painting animals through procreate filled me with exhilaration. I love animals as they are uniquely beautiful in their own way. They have their own special traits, colours, size, shapes and characteristics. I love that Procreate provides features to make my animal paintings look realistic. Besides, I also love the layering feature as it helps me to precisely locate the shape of body or objects according to my liking without disrupting or overlapping my initial content. This hardly can be achieved in a real painting.

3. In my opinion, the most challenging part of this project is to make fantasy paintings. It is quite hard for me to achieve the perspectives of the landscape and make it look digitalized. I tried following additional tutorials on Youtube but I guess I need more practice and patience to improve my skills on fantasy landscape paintings.

4. Animation was a part of my project that surprisingly worked well, thanks to my instructor Brad Woodard. I decided to do animation in my final week because I needed more knowledge and experience using the different features of Procreate before jumping into the most challenging one. To my surprise, animation is not hard but it tests my patience a lot as I have to spend a lot of time creating numerous frames just to make the transition smooth. However, I need more practice to refine my animating skills on Procreate.

5. As I have mentioned earlier, Procreate is very easy to learn but one has to practice a lot to paint their imagination on canvas. Personally, I think I have to watch more videos and practice more to improve my landscape paintings. Hopefully, with more practice, I will be able to do better in the future.

Maryam Wafiyah Bt Mohd Adam, A174970, 15 August 2022

1. Yes! I learned so much about the things that I aim to learn at the beginning of the project. Mainly consisting of, all of the adjustments procreate has to offer, colour theory behind the colour selection tools, mastering the brush engine to modify and create new brushes, and learn about advanced topic like layer blend modes and layer masks. Not only that, the course also teach things outside of my objectives like creating animations and painting 3d objects. By finishing the course and achieving the objectives, I got to create lots of artworks that I am very proud of.

2. What I enjoyed most is how efficient I can draw my drawings now. It used to take me days to create an artwork. Nevertheless, after learning all the features in procreates, I got to achieve what I want my painting to look like, quicker and nearer to what I imagine in my head. Not to mention, the satisfaction of completing the artwork. Since I didn't know about all the tips and tricks before this, I never got to create a complete artwork. I usually just do it halfway. Now, I am so satisfied with the amount of artworks I finished within this 4 weeks.

3. What I find challenging is to apply what I learn in the projects after finishing the course for the week. When following the course, it looks easy and simple, like "Oh, I can do this". This is because the instructor was being very thorough, asking us to follow step by step. But when I actually do it, fuhh, it is surely NOT easy. I kept going back to the video to remember back the steps that I have to do.

4. I believe that it's hard to say which part worked most, because in the end, I have to apply all that I learned from the course. If I really have to choose the one that really worked most, I would say the creativity the course build in me. This is because, it teaches that erasers are not just erasers, smudging tools are not just for smudges, it is also a tool to create textures and add depth to the drawings. By exploring this way of thinking, I got to create more unique arts.

5. I realised that I like to draw cute characters a lot. Once I tried a more scary looking ones, I found it very captivating. I want to draw more weird faces and drawings that can haunt peoples' dreams. I should expand my horizon and draw many type of drawings with different art styles. I'm looking forward to drawing more even after the course and elective posting is finished.

1. Yes I have achieved the objectives of the project as I have completed my supplemental 20 hour classes on top of my main 40 hour classes. From the 40 hour class, I was able to acquire a certification and my supplemental classes were meant to achieve new knowledge based on the foundation that I have built from the main classes. As of now I have achieved my objective in understanding the foundation of marketing from my main class. Other than that, the other objective was to understand the world of digital marketing and that was achieved from both my main and supplemental classes. As for my final objective which is to learn entrepreneurship, I have also achieved this by learning ways to broaden my brand to the public if I ever decide to produce a product and also how to spread the word about it in the most effective way possible

2. What I found most exciting was imagining how I was able to apply these skills in a business. The part that intrigued me the most was how we can use search engine to our advantage when wanting our products to appear on the top of an organic search whenever a consumer searches a relevant word to our product. l love that part because I spend a large portion of my life on the web and to learn how it understands a consumer behaviour as well as how to create an optimal web so that it can be as consumer friendly as possible really made me excited to learn even more from digital marketing. Of course there were others such as how to use local directories to our advantage, social media, email marketing, content marketing, web advertisement, etc but these all were started from search engine as a stepping stone.

3. For me the most challenging part of the was the certification exam itself. For me I love to learn but I have a hard time this enormous amount of information before an exam. It also doesn't help that the lessons can't be revised manually and I have to rely on my own acquired knowledge for the exam. Fortunately I was able to pass the exam and acquire the certification after having 26 different lessons from the main classes.

4. What worked for me was the classes provided on Google Garage and how the lecturers were able to concisely deliver the lessons so that we are able to pickup on the concept as fast as possible. It also helps to solidify our foundation of knowledge by having us take topic quizzes which allow us to apply the knowledge before moving on to a different lesson.

5. This project can be improved by having a startup business which would be a very fruitful experience as I get to apply these marketing skills to publicise my product to the public's eye. This would truly be an eye opening experience if it were to ever happen because I'll also be exposed to other fields of business and marketing not taught in Google Garage. However, this will be a very costly and time consuming project as one month is not enough to even begin having a product for sale which requires design, certification of approval, etc before even making it onto the shelves.

Fourth week of Application Development

Jazebelle Faith Childs, A178492

1. The main objectives of the project are for me to learn basic programming and coding, to learn the fundamentals of creating different Android application, and to learn how to apply the knowledge of programming and coding into creating the applications. In my opinion, the objectives were fulfilled as I did learn basic programming and coding from the lessons, and also the fundamentals of creating different Android applications. I also learned how to apply the knowledge as I created the applications by following the instructions.

2. I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole month of being involved in this project. I got to learn an essential skill in life which is basic coding and also programming. Even though I did not learn a coding language, but I was still able to create applications through the basic coding and programming taught. I enjoyed the fact that the whole course was interactive and I got to do hands-on projects such as creating the applications. Every single one of the objectives I have set for this project was accomplished and I did it while enjoying the whole course without stress.

3. I have found the quizzes and assignments to be especially challenging. I found that the multiple choice questions were average (not so hard, but not too easy), but I struggled with the subjective questions as sometimes the questions are too specific and hard. But as I revise the learning material more and more, it helped me to find the answers.

4. The entire learning course really worked well for me, from the informative videos to the very detailed learning materials. The applications that I was taught to create were also of different variety with different functions, which was really good for beginners as it teaches as what specific coding or programming carries what specific function or role. For a beginner, this course was really helpful as it really taught everything I needed to know for basic coding and programming.

5. The variety of applications that were created is something that can be improved in this project. Other than that, the final exams I took were just theory questions regarding different applications, I feel like it would challenge and benefit me more if the final exams consisted of creating different applications.

Week 4 of Procreate Digital Arts

Wan Muhammad Ariff ( A177120 )

1) Yes, for the past 4 weeks, I have learnt almost everything my instructor taught me on procreate. I am truly grateful for her guiding me and being able to help me through out this posting. In my view, the objectives that I target was achieved especially the animation part. I hope im able to apply all this and create better art in the future

2) What I have enjoyed in this session is applying all the knowledge and creating my own art, it was confusing and tough but with perseverence I was able to make it. I love animation most of all, it is quite a lot of work, but Sucess is shown through effort

3) The challenging part of this course is the 3D Model, There were a lot of branches of the model that is needed to be discovered. Of course it takes time such as the metallic colour, the base colour to really sick on. Therefore, I plan on further learning it myself and rewatching some of the lecture on it again.

4) What really work was the brushes and colour skin with the usage of the blur mechanism. On top of that, being able to align it with the animation truly shows a representation of art

5) In my opinion, the video was nice as it was and the explanation was really well delivered. I have not much idea on improvement, but If I would give a suggestion, it would be a lecture on a realistic human potrait. it is truly tough to get the definition and the shading right. However, it is not something I can ask for. Therefore i will try to find my own resources and learn from there on a realistic human face painting.
