Climate change and biodiversity:

i)Healthy ecosystems and rich biodiversity are fundamental to life on our planet.

ii)Climate change is affecting the habitats of several species, which must either adapt or migrate to areas with more favourable conditions.

iii)Even small changes in average temperatures can have a significant effect upon ecosystems.

iv) The inter-connected nature of ecosystems means that the loss of species can have knock-on effects upon a range of ecosystem functions.

climate change:
           The world is heating up. The increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases, such as CO2, in the Earth’s atmosphere are causing the planet’s climate system to retain more energy. The average temperature of the Earth's surface increased by an estimated 0.7°C since the beginning of the 20th century and, according to the most recent projections of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change , could rise by 1.6–4.3°C compared to a 1850–1900 baseline by 2100.

The effects of increased CO2 in the atmosphere and changing climatic conditions are expected to include:

* more frequent extreme high maximum temperatures and less frequent extreme low minimum temperatures, and warmer winter conditions

* decreased snow cover: satellite observations suggest that the area of the planet covered by snow has already declined by 10 per cent since the 1960s

* increased climate variability, with changes in both the frequency and severity of extreme weather events

* increase in sea level

* ocean acdification

Effects of climatic change on biodiversity:
Climatic changes plays an important role in the balance of bio diversity..
The increasing concentration of green house gases such as CO2 , in the earth's atmosphere are causing the climate system to retain more energy.
The changes in the biodiversity includes the effects such as:

i) Shifts in distribution of plants and animals:
Due to the changes in bio diversity the birds, plants and animals are pushed to change their habitat and thus the distribution of some plants and animals in a particular area is affected.

ii) Barriers to movement:
The movement of animals and other living organisms are affected in a such a way that they cannot move to other places as they cannot adopt themselves to different environment.

iii) Changing patterns of percipitation and evaporation:
The climates are frequently changing and thus we are facing problems as there is no suitable rain and seasons in the time they are expected.
(eg) The agriculture and cultivation process also collapses and the crops ready to harvest also spoils in the last minute.

iv) Rapid changes:
Rapid changes in the climate as mentioned above is a major fall of the world as not only the animals and birds but also humans are affected as we take time to adopt ourselves to the climate, fall sick often.

v) Species interaction:
The species in a particular habitat thus unable to interact with the different environment it faces and becomes endangered and even extinct as they die because of the changing atmosphere.

vi) Coastal margins:
The glaciers and ice mountains present in the earth starts to melt and the sea water level increases. This results in the widening of coastal margins and the living area of people reduces...
