Merchant Of Venice Video Response:

Project Work:
My reason for including this particular piece is because it is one of the only full fledged projects we had in this unit. Projects like these are important because they encourage you to be creative and collaborative, and they prepare you to deal with people in the future; not to mention the added entertainment. Many of the skills needed in the real world require us to be able to communicate our ideas efficiently and without creating chaos. And this group project challenged me in all those skills.

Collaborative Work:
I chose this piece for my collaborative work because it hasn't challenged me to work with peers as much as any other assignment. As chosen role of director, I was in charge of giving direction and attempting to keep the "actors" on task. This could potentially prepare me for a managerial position in the future or in other cases as a leader. Everyone at some point in their lives is looked to as a leader, and this project has helped me develop as one.

Research Paper Response

Research:
Despite having the word "research" in the title, I chose this piece because without the skill to use resources, and afterwards properly cite them; nothing would get used with credit due to it's rightful owners. Not only for the author biography section of the paper, but for the literary analysis as well; I had to look up terms and even things I had already learned. But in the end it made the paper better and more professional.

Writing (Informal):
Writing as a whole is an essential skill to learn. I chose this particular piece because it is the most writing we have done all year. Writing is important because, besides speaking, it is the most important form of communication and expression. There is no better way of testing someone's knowledge on a subject than asking them to write a paper or essay. And when people want to tell about a new idea or opportunity, they write about it.

Writing (Formal):
The skills learned in English class, while not always the most fun, prepare us for communication and studies in college and beyond. I chose this piece because it was the most time consuming writing peace we have done all year. It not only challenged my skills but my focus as well. Though it is nothing compared to the theses I will have to right in college, I cannot think of a way to be better prepared.

Creative Work:
I chose this piece because it helped me write creatively in a more formal setting. It has helped me realize that I have a passion for creative writing. Without the ability to be creative I wouldn't be able to express myself. Later on I will be faced with the challenge of having to make something original, and without the ability to creative, I might be able to produce something but It would probably put someone to sleep.

Independent Work:
I chose this piece because it was one of the only things we did, besides this portfolio, that I was really confused on the requirements. As I progress in my life, it has been made clear that my preforming of responsibilities will become more and more independent. I will have to depend less on my teacher and parents and more on my sense of what is good content and whats is not. While sometimes I'd prefer to be alone, it is the saying that "two heads are better than one," that really starts to become true.

Poetry Test Response

Assessment Work:
The poetry test, having received warning on it's difficulty, was my most prepared test-taking experience. In the past I have memorized the content, but did not prepare for the higher form of thinking that is required within honors courses. The poetry test however gave me hope for the remainder of the year, especially because I made one of the higher grades in the class. It acted kind of as a turning point, and helped me realize, along with comments from teachers, that preparation is key.

Homework/Classwork:
This was one of the few assignments that I knew what I was doing, and how to do it. It was pretty easy but it was also easy to mess up. While I might not be faced with something as easy later in life, I can still see the bigger picture in how it could help me progress as a better student. Not to be confused with busywork, homework has helped me and my study habits immensely.
