Marco Polo was amazed by their journey within the silk road city. 

Meanwhile, Denis and Francis were unexpected and unwelcome visitors. They were given little food and had not been well treated. They  also had no camels to buy to help them to continue their journey.

They both however, had to truly prepare for the next part of their journey in the desert where they would struggle. Denis and Francis traveled through the freezing cold. They traveled on horse and had mules. They did also see the land marks Marco Polo had talked about.

Visa's were not given with ease to the travelers and the forgery of one could have caused great danger. He was able to have hospitality with the Mongol emperor.

Denis and Francis did not have it easy at all. They were homesick and used to friendly people. They felt like they had no home.

They both however began to enter the world unknown. This was similar to what Denis and Francis had to get by a Afghan Warlord. This gave them 25 body guards and cars to get across Afghanistan in.
