•  In Rome, the scale between the riches and poor was unbalanced, with the riches getting richer and poor remaining poor. 

  •  Rome has a very strict hierarchical system, with society being separated into classes and social statues

   • Those at the bottom of the society, such as slaves and widows would get little to no help from the society as they suffered poverty and sickness. 

   •  In Christian community, God is not classified, that God does not belong to one group of society people have created. Instead God treats everyone fairly. This made people feel equal in a society that was unequal. 

  •  Slaves were given dignity and status

 

Every person is highly valued and regarded by God, because every person is a reflection of God.

This makes people feel like their lives are worthy because it reflects the actions that could be carried out by God. Common people are also royal, in the sense that they could be in the same social class Jesus was in.

Stories about Jesus emphasize on his simplicity, his moderate social status, and his modesty. 

  • In Christianity, people are no longer isolated but would come together as a community and help each other.

   • Churches would set up social services like free soup and even money to give to the people in need.

  • Churches also treat widows as virgins and they were paid by churches.
