The enlightenment started after many people started to look for answers through science and reason. One major reason for the spread was because of the printing press, the printing press allowed for mass spread of ideas to the common people because it made books and pamphlets more accessible. this spread of knowledge led to those under rule to become dissatisfied. The enlightenment was one reason for the revolutions we see in this time.

The american revolution was one of the first major revolutions and sparked revolution in the hearts of many other colonies. The revolution against the british was mainly because of the unfair taxation the colonies were facing. After the french and indian war the british needed more money so they taxed their colonies heavily. This unjust taxation without representation lead to unrest. these tensions lead to the boston massacre and boston tea party making the brits and colonies angry until they snapped. The revolution was also caused by and influenced by the enlightenment ideas. Including but not limited to popular sovereignty, natural rights, and consent of the governed.

A major cause of the french revolution was the american revolution. This is because the french economy was weak after the french and indian war as well as from helping the colonies in their revolution against the british. Once the peasants could even afford bread but the nobles were partying every day they had enough. Even though the nobles had the power the peasants had the numbers. These peasants had also been influenced by the enlightenment and wanted to change to government into a more modern and fair government. Once they chopped the elites heads they developed a democracy their revolution also caused many countries to declare war on france in fear of revolutionary ideas this also lead to the rise of Napoleon.

The colonie produced 40% of the worlds sugar and 50% of the coffe. this made the colonie wealthy enough to revolt and made thier revolution a big problem to the new france who is also broke. the revolt was Led by a former slave: Toussaint L’Ouveture and Jean Jaques Dessalines. thier victory led to the louisian purchase and left france in $21 billion in debt.

(ex: lighter plows, selective breeding, high yeild seed.) this lead to increas output, lowered prices, and needed less farmers so many moved to cities.
2: 1400-1800 saw a rapid growth of world population. more people = more energy needed making wood and charcoal more scarce. in response new forms of energy made coal, oil, and gas = more production.
3: Europe became an industrial hot spot due to their small size made it lucrative and competitive and a breeding ground for innovation. this competition also led many nations to form deals with merchants in exchange for tax breaks from the nation in exchange for loans. Europe also had many diverse people perfect for spreading ideas across the globe. the colonies of Europe where also a major benefit giving them recourses and markets.

Society went through drastic changes with new classes and the decline of old ones. Your position in society was no longer based on birth but skills. this lead to the decline of the aristocracy although they kept land but their political power waned as the wealth started to shift more to the middle and land was less valuable.
The power was now in the hands of the middle class that was made up of three tiers with factory owners and merchants followed by small businesses lawyers and the like and the bottom tier made up of clerks and cops and stuff. Now that more people owned stuff people started to want more restricted governments, property laws, and trade and social freedom. this new idea of self made worth made people believe more in education, hard work, and morality giving birth to respectability. In the middle class men and women lived very differently with women being home makers and men breadwinners.
With the rise of the middle class the working class was formed. the working class worked dangerous and unappealing jobs in factories and mines for little pay. this little pay led them to living in poor conditions and even sending their children to make more money. all genders and ages worked and mortality rates and injuries where higher among the working class.
